FAANG has made me obsessed with money. I reached levels of compensation and wealth by the time I was 30 which far exceeded any goals I set for myself before getting into tech. I should be celebrating, yet I’ve just become obsessed with getting MORE (not just in my career but outside of work through investments, side hustles, etc). This has completely destroyed my ability to derive happiness from any of the day-to-day joys in life. I feel like I am just racing to the finish line. There are certain milestones (e.g. buy a certain type of car, buy a vacation home, etc) that I feel compelled to “check the box” on for no real reason. I am driven to just get them over with so I can move on to the fun bits. It’s like when you rush to beat the end boss in a game and then go back to do all the side quests. Has anyone else dealt with this? Besides seeing a therapist, have you found any methods for coping with it? TC: $350k YOE: 8
high TC has made me obsessed with FIRE. I can't stop thinking about money until I hit 5M NW, thinking of going aggressive into the stock market to achieve it
I've seen this alot. I used to be a FIRE nerd but then I realized that doing nothing related to creation / producing gets boring real fast. I also noticed most of the richest ppl I ever met can FIRE whenever they want but still choose to chase money. I think the fruits of ur labour is a dopamine rush than most other kinds. Try going in ur bank or stock account and using the HTML editor and edit it to 5M to see how different u feel.
5M?? We need that much to retire??
Find a hobby , which you enjoy doing and derives you u no monetary benefits. Most people volunteer in non- profit organizations. ( not donate money .. but physically be present and do it ) it’s a humbling experience. I learnt to be happy with my existence and in what I have .
Start donating, create something to serve people/animals that are in need and keep making more money :) cause if all you assets are invested there will be always a risk to loose some if not all of them
I don't manage it, it manages me.

There ain’t no rest for the wicked
i don't even use 95% of my money for anything, i just like seeing the big number go up.
Same. I have big goals I’m saving for but more money does absolutely nothing for me in the short term. I have everything I need.

'Hindutva': The Radical Hindu Ideology That Seeks to 'Push Christianity Out of India’
assuming you don't have a partner, which really helps to balance most people out
I do. They also work in FAANG. They are kind of a workaholic which doesn’t help.
