I take 3 weeks to visit my home country every year. I am very close to my family and we look forward to seeing each other. Other than that, I am really left with only a few days, if at all. Traveling during long weekends or Christmas is super expensive. How do you guys plan your PTOs and travel, while keeping it within the budget?
Where do you live now? I do a lot of road trips which makes budgeting easier. There might be a bunch of cool places to visit within driving distance from you!
New York. Are you close?
Nope but I’m sure there’s lots within driving distance of NY. Edit: Usually plane tickets are the most expensive part about travel. For accommodations check Airbnb.
I plan most of my days off and vacation around company holidays. For traveling on a budget, lookup "travel hacking".
Thanks :)
I'm super disorganized, so I book trips a few days in advance, sigh, and eat the increased cost.
Can't afford that :)
South America is a cool place to explore, and it's often significantly cheaper to fly from Tijuana airport than from US. So you can fly to San Diego, walk across the bridge to TIJ, and fly wherever you want and will probably save some money
I offer to work from home for the third week
Interesting. Do most managers agree?
Same. I have 3 weeks vacation, and when I visit my family, I work one week from there. My manager allows because It’s a super far country, etc
Where is the mater patria? Do you get paid Veterans Day?
