I think I will jump to Netflix in a heartbeat if N offers more than $430k. Currently L4 at $360k Do you think my assessment of Netflix is accurate? Wlb Google > Netflix Pay Google < Netflix Benefits Google > Netflix Prestige Google > Netflix Promo/Growth/Learning Google < Netflix Talents Google < Netflix Wfh (is N mandatory RTO? Google does 3 a week) Google > Netflix

How did this happen? (Meta Stock)
Netflix L4 Max is 400k. Average offers I have seen are 340-360k in bay area. Don't live in fool's paradise. A lot more people are available in this job market compared to the demand. You won't get an out of band offer. Though their L5 bar is all over the place because they do team based hiring. So you might sneak in as an L5 while being an L4 because of the bar inconsistencies.
Wrong info. L4 can be from low range like 300k to 550k.
Netflix is higher prestige than Google. Netflix comp is all cash. Netflix supports WFH. Seems like an easy choice for me.
All cash is not better that publicly traded company stock. Any time someone says this as if it makes the offer so much better, it shows how little they understand.
Netflix model is strictly better than a cash + RSU model like Google has. You can trade your cash for options if you think Netflix is going up and you’ll get them at a discount with higher upside.
Netflix rifs/layoffs way more than google. (Could work if you get severance and don’t burn the bridges with Google) Netflix also has bad wlb. Netflix has low talent density. Few more things to consider ^^^
Thank you for the insight. Just a couple question 1. Do you get warning before they put you on pip so you can try to not be pipped 2. Does it usually get evaluated against ur actual performance or can it be just bad manager/politics.
1. No warning. No formal pip, direct bye bye in name of calibrations. 2. Less oversight on managers so if they don’t like you, you are out. Read up the botched culture doc on their website. Bonus-Their engineering is no more the pinnacle as it used to be.
I’ve heard Netflix promo/growth is terrible. Is it really better than Google?
I don't understand how someone defines prestige as a singular rubric. I can understand it can be prestigious to work for a company with high pay, reputation of engineering quality, wlb etc. Even with that, let's say, prestige is a function of other things, it can't be a deciding factor for job; at least for mature people.
Netflix > Google prestige tbh. Google really has fallen in terms of the quality of their engineers recently. That's not to say that certain research teams in Google are not stronger in terms of prestige but strictly from just software development Netflix simply outclasses Google.
Would recommend moving to YouTube internally over Netflix.
Are you on a visa? With Netflix’s hire and fire culture it might be a problem.
Netflix is terrible for promotion minded people
You are just a mere L4. Of course Netflix is better for you
Assuming senior vs senior. And stop coasting
You should go back to coding before getting negative feedback from your TLs
