If you could invest in OpenAI or Anthropic now, would you?

TLDR: have a chance at investing up to 500k in one of them, but don’t know a ton about this type of investing. Feels like it could become even bigger and IPO soon, or could collapse into pile of doodoo What do you guys think, what would you do? TC: 350k / HHI: 550k, NW: $1M. No home equity

Maybe 6 months ago...

What changed in those 6 months?

Snap balop5 Apr 27

Valuations doubled or tripled

PayPal udipt86j Apr 27

It depends on how much are you willing to throw away. With that HH TC, and only a 1M NW, if I were you, assuming no kids, I’ll risk 15-25% of net-worth for the reward. Not 50%.

Anyone can do it at this point, indirectly. You can buy XYYZ (destiny 100). It has also a ton of Space X. But it has been pretty volatile. So thread with caution.

😀😂🤣 It's Net Asset Value is like 1/20th of it's market cap. And it's a shell company. You're buying 95% hype and 5% private companies.

Literally nobody knows what GenAI is good for yet

Google xYa5eQ9 Apr 27

Don't put 50% of your NW in one asset, especially a risky one like a pre-IPO company with a huge pre-money valuation

PayPal lst&beatup OP Apr 27

Agreed. I was personally leaning towards 50k to 100k

I’m pretty sure these companies are hemorrhaging money. GPU/TPUs aren’t cheap

I know this opportunity is for Anthropic with a 50k minimum. As someone who has lost a ton of money in similar opportunities, I advice against it. Main argument I will say is that the valuations are not tied to any revenue stream but rather just made up by the founders

Ehh yes AI is the future but Llama 3 coming out and kicking ass out of nowhere made me question how much of a moat openai and anthropic really have. So idk

OpenAI aianys Apr 28

No moat at all
