For an offer of say 120k RSU per year, does that mean for each month, you are granted 10k in MSFT stock based on the valuation of stock that month? Or based on valuation of stock at time of hire? Also does GitHub offer refreshers after 4 years or at promotion? TC: 320k YOE: 12
Yes, that’s right whatever the price by EOD on 15th of month is considered as grant price. Cliff is 1 year and there after every 3 months. GitHub do have refreshers, granted during in the month of September. Refreshers are based on job level - 16k 29k , 65k.
So waiting for a stock crash to join could be a great idea, is what I’m hearing… interesting, and thank you all so much! Any idea how long GitHub offers are good for? And if you are to turn it down, will they reconsider you soon after?
You need to let them know about in 2 weeks at the most. I don’t think they reconsider once you turned down the offer.
Yeah if I was the hiring manager and you accepted then reneged on an offer you wouldn’t get a second one
How much RSU were you offered from Github?

What happens when most of your team is Indian?
Your stock gets priced at the time of award. First vest is a year after joining, quarterly afterwards. E.g. if you joined, were given 100k over 4 years and stock price was 100 on the 15 of the month after you joined. You would get num 100 * 100 = 100k ..Total rsu dollar amount from your offer. If that was on a 4 year vesting schedule and stock grows to 200, you still get the same number of shares. So your 25k per year original grant is now worth 50k Of course you get annual rewards next year based upon performance which is rsu priced at the time of next reward. That is MSFT, I am not sure if github does anything different
Let’s say I joined today which is 5th Feb, so I will be awarded on 15th Feb at whatever price it closed at the EOD??
Yes, though usually there is some cut off for your start to be put into system for the 15th. If it's beyond that it's the next 15th which is the share holder meeting. E.g. if you joined on 11th, it would likely be next month's 15th. But the important thing is, your sign on rsu is locked at that price. Whatever growth it gets in the next 4 years, is just your stock growth. Oh and we are not like Amazon. So come rewards time, we won't tell you, your effective tc has increased where we are adding that stock increase in your 'rewards' aka target tc. What you got on sign on, is what it is, just sign on. If you are good enough to be employed, you get that. Each year you get new rsu based upon your performance during the year. Suddenly it seems MS doesn't pay that low, if you negotiated well
