I am about to start at Twitter. I am curious from an eng’s perspective how rewards work at Twitter? I am joining as SWEII. How hard is to get the stock refreshers? Does base increase only on promotions?
It’s like FB/G. Yearly raises, yearly cash bonus and yearly stacked refreshers. Refresher numbers are also kind of similar to SWEII refreshers at FB/G.
Can you give details on what are the ranges or % for SWEII?

Annual Refresher target is in theory 1/4 of your initial grant (at least for PM and SWE) and yes they stack
Annual refreshers are around 1/4 of initial grant and vest over 4 years. So after the 4 year cliff, you’d in theory have 4 stacked refreshers yielding yearly equity still at 1/4 of the initial grant. Years 2, 3 and 4 will be slightly higher since you have the original grant plus part of the first refreshers. Yearly bonus is between 10% to 25% of base salary depending on your level. However it is split into two halves - one based on personal performance in your annual review and one based on company financial metrics. You can mostly expect your personal half to be paid on target, but historically the company has been very shitty about the company’s half and created drama with tone deaf and unsympathetic, dismissive comms around reducing the bonus. Raises are dire and awful. Even great performers only get like 3% or 4% and there’s no serious difference between high performers and low performers. Promo raises are very unpredictable. I’ve heard of some cases where a promo leads to like a 15% or 20% raise, other cases of like senior eng promoted to staff getting only 6% raise even when they were not already high in the salary band. Overall I’ve found comp to be pretty mediocre at Twitter. If you plan to rest and vest and not try hard, it’s fine. If you expect to give high effort in exchange for a pathway to much greater rewards, Twitter will just burn you out and disappoint you.
