Joined Yahoo as a campus hire, so I have no experience in this Have one offer so far from Amazon( in the process of interviewing in other companies ), hr from Amazon told me he would give the offer details in a few days but it comes with a deadline to accept. When do I have time for negotiation? Say the first version of offer has unreasonably low number and has a week deadline. Do I and HR need to come to an agreeable/reasonable number within that deadline?
Be sure to ask every company (for positions in California) for the compensation band. They are required by law to provide it.
And it's oh so wonderful to hear them grit their teeth and tell you anyway
^ Which company? Friend talked to Netflix and the recruiter said “oh we don’t have salary bands.” Waiting to hear what happens next.
Deadlines/exploding offers are a negotiating ploy. 95% of the time, they aren't in a rush to hire, they just use it to force you to sign without getting other offers. Tell your other companies you have an offer coming, and they'll speed up their process. Call Amazon's bluff on the deadline. The best way to negotiate is to have multiple offers and make the companies bid.
👍 How to best call their bluff? Should I just ignore the deadline and keep negotiating beyond the deadline.
Thank you, I will keep that in mind..

Most deadlines are fake so yeah start negotiating and see whether they extend the deadline or not
Thank you, I will keep that in mind. The other thread had a link to article ( https://medium.freecodecamp.org/ten-rules-for-negotiating-a-job-offer-ee17cccbdab6 ) , going through it
