How dumb is Apple for removing physical sim slot from latest iPhone?

Apple has lost its way. Not every country/provider has eSIM capability. If you can miss that as Apple PM GBY! Edit: to all the geniuses stuck in echo chamber of US monopoly of cellular providers: 1. if you’re traveling internationally how would you use a local sim if the local network provider doesn’t support it? It makes my fancy iPhone a fancy brick. 2. Try using a lyca mobile sim which costs $75 for a year with unlimited local and international calls and not have it supported on my $1400 iPhone!

It’s actually more convenient.

Google GsvF84 Apr 9

Howso? You can have ESim and slot...

Microsoft y2c28u Apr 9

You don’t need to use a paperclip and open the tray to get the sim out or put it in. Plus, the space saved by removing the slot can be used for some other hardware.

Not dumb at all. Apple is using their power as a tastemaker to force eSIM adoption more widely, like USB-C

Meta ffudjegsfb Apr 8

Like USB-C? more like Apple was forced to adopt lol

Microsoft y2c28u Apr 8

Well USB-C is different, they were dragging their feet on that, but they did that with headphone jack.

Whoever invented SIM card was the stupid one. Not the ones who removed it.

Amazon luvkanye Apr 8

And the iPhones sold in those countries still have a sim tray. How dumb are you to not know that?

If I buy an iPhone in US, I should be only expected to use it in US?

Amazon luvkanye Apr 8

Do you expect to get an EU compatible charger when you buy a laptop in the US?

Apple re:Desu Apr 8

is this going to do anything for SIM swap attacks?

Apple NGTi68 Apr 8

If you know you will need sim card, buy an unlocked iphone from that country and bring it over to us.

I see lots of comments defending Apple, but no comments explaining how I will be able to pop a British SIM into my phone next time I’m in the UK.

Splunk jsjsoll Apr 8

Simple use Google fi, work’s internationally.

Pathward GMtl64 Apr 9

Just download GLOBAL YO eSIM app from App Store and purchase affordable data with the best coverage network in no time and it’s pretty cheap and reliable. Believe me you will love this. Very efficient and if you ever go to London or Australia, Lyca Mobile offers eSIM which is useful. This is the future!
