Why Pronouns shit captured US ? I don’t see this anywhere else
Currently having comfortable life in India. Have 11 years SW development experience. Got an offer for 240K TC (180 base + 60 stocks) for a company in Bay area - San Mateo. How is this pay? Should I accept this offer? We have 2 kids but no daycare costs as wife would not be working for now. Is it worth it? Edit: Thanks for all the responses! I've worked with this US director previously, that's why he has given me this offer. We had a great working relationship. He had trust in my work, I know the tech stack pretty well and he also provides a great deal of flexibility. For ex in case of any emergency back home, I can work for months from India and I know he'll be ok with it. These are the reasons why I was considering this offer. Would try and negotiate but if it is too low I'll reject.
I'm sure Google r n d is paying you much more
In India?
Don’t rely on the stock income as it isn’t guaranteed.
It basically is though unless OP has an offer from a startup. The Great Recession made everyone pretty wary but I see this sentiment regularly and it’s just a little silly. You should be able to handle a 20-30% slide in stock value pretty easily with these kinds of TC numbers, and even that would be a pretty serious recession by historic standards.
With a potential recession around the corner you should be prepared for a 50 to 75% drop or more (being laid off).
FAANG would definitely pay more for 11 yoe. 240 TC is good but you can probably do much better
Shift via Google. You will get more pay.
You can live comfortably in apartment but will be difficult to own a single family home unless you wanna buy condos in East Bay with 1 hour commute. Of course you can take this offer and can jump after couple of years for good pay. So, initially there will be struggle
That’s fine to begin with. Once you are here, switch after a year or so and you will get 350-370 easily at FAANGs. One of my colleagues came from India couple of years back on low salary. After a year, asked for a raise and management understood his concerns and he got 10% raise in TC. One year after that, moved to FAANG for 350K. As far as I know he was earning around 180K when he came here and now 350K that too last year.
No that's a joke. Don't bother coming to USA for peanuts
I make 245k with 3 yoe
Hmm FB London keeps calling (was almost through last year). Do you think I should apply again? I'm more concerned about work flexibility than money. How is it at fb London?
180 base will get you an apartment on the poor side of town (E. San Jose) and that's a long commute away from San Mateo!! That's a life destroyer commute. The stocks can't be viewed as very reliable so it's a non starter to your question. So my answer is a hard NO to come.
That’s poverty level TC if you have to support a wife and two kids.
