It looks like Blind does not store information so that it can identify users but I find it hard to believe that it has no way to trace back the author of a post in case they have a demand from law enforcement agencies. Won’t it be same with Reddit except that the employees *might* be able to identify a username but I am guessing that access to that information will be very limited and audited so no one who is sane is going to attempt that.
You need to be employed to be on Blind.
Then who are the “New” company users, I thought they were accounts not linked to company emails
New just means their company doesn't have significant people here to preserve anonymity. Less than 500 people and it's very easy to track every individual
You can change your username on blind every 24 hours. Can't really do that on Reddit.
Now I look like two people from the same company, don't I? That's Blind power.
You can just sign up a few more email accounts to have a few more reddit accounts.
I'd say three reasons: 1. Check out the FAQs - "The only information that we require for signup is an email address. All email addresses are hashed, salted and then encrypted. Blind accounts are stored separately from the hashed email addresses. This means that a user’s activity cannot be traced to an email. Real names are never connected to accounts because we don’t ask for this information. To further protect your anonymity, we discourage users from sharing too much personal information in their posts and messages, which others could potentially use to identify them." 2. Most users actively try to remain anonymous 3. What @sgah said, you can easily change your username
Apart from hashes emails. One feature is lack of any support for post history. Basically, even if your manager suspects your username is X, because they happen to see a post that describes a familiar situation, it's not possible to easily track other posts. Unless they themselves are a regular and you never charge username, and they happen to see you again. The post history from years ago is literally how everyone on Reddit gets doxxed so easily. Oh, you used to mention you're from Redmond 4 years ago? And also mentioned Y and Z some 2 years ago? Only one such person that fits the description!
If someone googles wawY45 site:teamblind.com they can get all your public posts..
You can get some, but not all, and also the comments will likely be missing. Plus, this only works for non-emoji non-special characters, presumably.
It’s more the culture I’d say. Blind is specifically tech ppl and only tech ppl, who verified they’re tech ppl, talking about their jobs. Reddit is anyone and their mother talking about anything and their mothers. I am more or less public on Blind. I don’t advertise who I am. But it’s not a secret (as in lots of ppl know who I am irl from DMs, Inc @ Dropbox). Its more the “option” of anonymity. I would NEVER share anything that I shouldn’t legally share on Blind and don’t encourage anyone to do the same. Anonymity or not its just not worth the risk. But having that layer of “well I don’t have to have my name attached for a mildly unpopular opinion” works wonders for free flowing convos.
