Specifically at Braintree. Any good groups? How’s the culture? TC: $210k
Paypal reserves the right to dock $2000 of your salary for each instance of wrongthink... he he. Dont work there.
What
Curious. Give me a example of the toxicity you refer to?
For example: EC and PP me are based on html code.from '99... when my previous skips's skip raised this to the svps he was fired (back in 2020 ring a bell?? ) AKA fear of change and toxic leaders unwilling to listen for improvements... wonder why Stripe keeps stealing our market share... Are you being cynical in your question or are you #Blind ?
PayPal product is pretty weak. There are too many product managers. They do not use numbers in decision making. The leadership (VP level and SD level) are only politicking rather that building vision. If you have an option - go somewhere else. PayPal has a strong brand name but it is not a premiere company.
If you are coming from Capital One, then you can ignore the comments above. It will be an upgrade in a way since PayPal still carries Silicon Valley tech cred and brand perception for the majority that aren't on Blind. And there are good influencers around every now and then who will motivate you to be a better PM.
Where do/have you work/worked at PayPal?
A couple of top startups that served big names in every industry that you can imagine, a popular digital health and wellness company and a FAANG. Now that I have answered your question, pls tell me how that helps? And just to be clear, I am very very familiar with PMs from Cap One, JPMC, WellsFargo and Visa and their product cultures they have operated in. Nothing wrong about it, just very different from Silicon Valley PM culture which is rare at PayPal too but just enough to still cast some hope that you may find the style of product work that was made popular on the West Coast.
There are literally product managers in PayPal who hold their jobs by performing sexual favors for the middle aged engineering managers. You can tell by seeing how bad they are at their jobs and how friendly they are with their middle aged engineering managers. If and when the pretty product managers get fired, there is a massive sexual harassment lawsuit coming.
This took a twist I wasn’t expecting.
I am speechless too. Feels incredible honestly. Because neither PayPal nor the roles are worth it for this to happen to anyone imo.
In my personal experience, Product at Paypal is incompetent. The people hired have little to no technical experience which causes issues understanding the boundaries of a domain. They are not good at prioritising tasks and gathering requirements which should be the bread and butter of their job. Again, there are always exceptions and I have worked with few of the sharpest people I know who are part of the product org.
I would consider product at PayPal and product at Braintree as completely different groups. I work with plenty of competent and talented PMs on the Braintree side.
Hey @PayPal, I’m looking for a referral. Can I dm you?

Stay away atleast for a year. It is a super super mess there right now since a year or more. They scrap all the projects after working on it for 8 months.
