How is RTO/40H in Tesla/SpaceX?

Hey friends in Tesla, SpaceX, erc, how is your RTO experience now, is 40 hour enforced, do you badge in/badge out, are people fired with less than 40h showing up at the office? Appreciated! 10Y TC ~500K at $54.2

I spend on avg 30 hrs at office and 30 at Home. I have to badge in daily but not out. There is a tool that tracks how many days you badged in the last 30 days. Less than 16, an automated email is sent cc'ing your manager for details why it happened.

That sounds awful. Why stick around? Did you get in early with RSUs?

Because I'm hungry

You can always stare at blank screen. Some of us go home for 5hours long lunch & to cook, wash and pick up their kids. Some hit the gym for 2 hour. Some show up for work at 8am and leave at 10:30am. Some do all the above

No one I know has been fired for not coming in. I am supply chain so we always have travel constantly as well. If we need to work remote for a day or 2 it's ok with manager approval. People that have a hard time are those that don't live near Tesla office. They are the ones either getting special approval for top performance or ultimatum.

I spend about 55-65hrs in office a week. Don’t know many who don’t. Your review score will definitely be impacted by working less than 40. However I’d expect cash bonus to be a thing of the past and refreshers to only go to top performers.

SpaceX IirR34 Nov 11, 2022

What makes you think that? I've always received bonus refreshers with slightly above average performance reviews

SpaceX ai57hf Nov 12, 2022

Had 4/4 @last annual review, received shit. Know a lot of folks with good scores that also didn’t receive a lot of refreshers

I guess many people are passionate about it, building a rocket sounds cool anytime, plus paper money which can be real one day.

SpaceX IirR34 Nov 11, 2022

We get about 1-2 tender offers per year where employees (current and old) can liquidate so it's very much real. Initial comp package is generally lower than other top tech companies but with appreciation is comparable or better especially given the current market.

OP, what happens to your unvested Twitter RSUs? Would you cash them out as and when they vest? At $54.2?

Twitter coast101 OP Nov 11, 2022

It’s supposed to vest as cash via payroll as scheduled at $54.2 for one year, that’s what’s said in the M&A contract.

I’ve never been forced to be in the office when I didn’t want to be. Before he emailed us about return to office I was working every morning from home and then showing up for 2-3 afternoons per week. After he emailed I started paying attention to make sure I wouldn’t trigger the 16/30 days scan in bot, but otherwise no change to behavior. For what it’s worth one of my friends who is a product manager at Google stayed with me for a week and we both wfhed. It does not appear I work significantly more than her. I brought up the concern with my manager when Elon first emailed, and my manager had no idea I even worked from home at all. He then said he will continue to have no idea.
