Levels.fyi should be accurate. Hybrid only (2 days in office) for L1/2 while higher levels may be fully remote. There’s maybe 300 engineers but the founders are still easy to reach. So in that sense it’s still very much a startup. The tech stack is a Rails/MySQL monolith with some other services and a lot of investment into “gradual modularity”. There’s still a lot of work to be done and right now there are a lot of growing pains that also make for some great opportunities for career growth. Work life balance is as good as other tech companies. Flexible vacation, wellness benefits, etc. People are very nice and there isn’t as much of a culture of “debate and commit” as much as the core values might suggest. It can be challenging sometimes to get people to speak honestly where they disagree and while they won’t necessarily work against you, it’s often clear they aren’t on board. Personally, I think that’s the case in a lot of instances but if you identify and work with your PE/manager it’s perfectly fine. Other than that, this is Blind and there are lots of shit talkers. I’d recommend reaching out to engineers and managers on LinkedIn if you want a different take. Everyone’s pretty happy to help each other out.
How is the compensation for staff roles?
Not better than Chime.
Depends a lot on the team. I've been here a few years and my WLB is great. Compensation is okay, not great but let's be real you can live on $200k.
@Gusto L4/L5 roles are remote or in-office? What is the IPO or acquisition potential?
If you have other options I wouldn’t join. Bad pay and culture.
I thought all positions list compensation. My WLB is fantastic. Tech stack is Ruby and Rails. DM if you have a background in Rails and I can answer more of your questions on a zoom.
It’s pretty good. Gusto has its own issues like every organization but the WLB is good, people are good and the pay is decent. The base pay is pretty aligned with industry standards so nothing exceptional but you can’t utilize your stock or bonus since it’s payed in RSUs and we aren’t public yet. If you’re looking for a place where you can make a ton of money right now, it’s probably not the right place but if you’re just looking for a company to show up your work and enjoy your job, then I would consider it.

A list of ethnic slurs on Indians that should be banned on Blind
The people I know at Gusto do not suggest it is a high-quality environment. Avoid.
