Looks like you posted twice: for you and your spouse. Why not combine in 1?

There are nowhere near as many jobs in pm vs dev. Plus being there are not many good companies I would be very picky about who to join, I would insist on asx listed. There are probably only 8 or 9 significant companies with HQs in Melbourne. Btw. wages are same as Sydney but rent is about 40% cheaper. So wage vs. CoL is actually really good. Expect 120-160k base, roughly 35% tax, and 1800-2100pm rent for a 2br in city centre.

That’s very helpful - thanks!!! What in your view are some strategies to find jobs in that space in Melbourne, besides just checking and applying on seek?

I would suggest applying direct via the careers page for a dozen or so companies. Alternatively, get in touch with a few recruiters and tell them exactly what companies you are looking for and get them to find you a job. Sadly, this is often more effective due to lazy HR departments that ignore applications. Seek itself actually has a bunch of positions available at the moment, I suggest you try them. Most likely best pay and best WLB but work is not that interesting. But yeah no tech company has interesting work in oz imo, even Atlassian is just a CRM for bugs. Banks are v old school and I find pay doesn't get close to tech companies, but they are the other big hirer in Melbs. NAB and Westpac have HQ here and Suncorp also has presence. Other alternative is gambling industry which would be Crown, Sportsbet, TAB or CrownBet due to the state being one of the most gambling addicted in the world lol. Crown is terrible while Sportsbet is probably ok. If you are coming to oz I definitely recommend Melbourne. Sydney is just not worth it, you could get same rent in bay area with double TC. Btw. you will be sought after by tech companies here if u have any experience with a recognisable brand in US. Plus Melbourne is pretty awesome so even if work is just average you will probably like it here.
