How is this legal?

I’m all for diversity, but how can this person at Facebook explicitly target certain types of people? What if someone said they wanted Chinese or Indian or Rwandan people? Also, as a Latina I really get sick of the whole Latinx thing. And enough with “womxn” please. It’s just so disingenuous after awhile. #hrissues #hr #discrimination #racism

Sounds like they’re just looking for people to refer.

Salesforce con largo Sep 24, 2020

Wow....ppl actually call themselves “thinker”

Microsoft TCwn11 Sep 24, 2020

"Advisor/Mentor/Guru | Looking for opportunities"

Salesforce fYNP01 Sep 24, 2020

It might be who they are looking for, not what they are

Amazon De$i Sep 24, 2020

It’s 1st amendment right until person actually denies someone employment based on belonging to a protected class (sex/ethnicity/race/etc). With this being said it could violate LinkedIn T&Cs, so free to report or call out this person racism

Google kaom Sep 24, 2020

Though it adds unfavorable evidence to any hiring discrimination suit

Kaspersky corrona Sep 29, 2020

The thing is ad discriminates against non-protected classes, so legally it’s not a discrimination

Apple TWB-gold Sep 24, 2020

I don’t see a problem with it. They are trying to diversify their company’s work force.

Amazon De$i Sep 24, 2020

Giving someone preference based on race is definition of racism. And most people agree that racism is a bad thing.

Salesforce T2__ OP Sep 24, 2020

Are skin color and ethnicity the most important diversity dimensions?

Amazon XLst20 Sep 24, 2020

They are just letting their preferences be known to the public, it’s blunt and should save everyone time. Isn’t it called affirmative action?

Amazon LWCb73 Sep 24, 2020

I think that LinkedIn post seems to fit into the definition of racism.

Pinterest sgxw42 Sep 24, 2020

Differentiated sourcing is legal (and cis white men have had this benefit for decades) - preferential hiring processes are not. This falls squarely into the former category

Facebook GfDS87 Sep 24, 2020

I swear, every time this comes up, someone always says “racism is okay because they used to do it too”

Pinterest sgxw42 Sep 24, 2020

That's not what I said? I said differential sourcing and expending increased effort to reach a more diverse pool is legal. Any networking event that isnt open invitation operates in the same way. The anger only seems to come into it when we are not in the targeted group. Hiring based on protected characteristics is, correctly, illegal.

Amazon Hvdr37 Sep 24, 2020

As a whitx mxn, I feel attacked by this posting

Facebook WhoIsJohnG Sep 25, 2020

Strange. I’m opposed to the intersectional cult, but claiming to be feeling attacked is just playing their game

Booking.com KingOfSky Sep 25, 2020

>diversity politics for me but not for thee Nah the only solution is to collectivize and fight back for White people. I mean I'm black, but fuck me if I want to live in a place that's like 90% "African-American". You know these people became Americans because nobody wanted them in Africa. They were probably giving them away for free. "Here White man take our trash, please just take it, it's free"

Autodesk 🥜 peenuts Sep 24, 2020

Wtf is a womxn?

Atlassian Izek35a Sep 24, 2020

Woman, but also can be women. So it becomes X, a variable

Autodesk 🥜 peenuts Sep 24, 2020

But why?

General Motors jPph07 Sep 24, 2020

My guess is that it's legal as everyone ends up in the same pool of candidates. If a company sets up a recruiting booth at a historically black college, or a rural college with mostly white people.... That won't be illegal. But if they reject one or the other based on race then that would illegal. IANAL. When in college I definitely did go to recruiting events where I did not meet the "criteria" and was even encouraged. The society of women engineer events had good food, too!
