How is working at Broadcom? Should I start looking for a job if I survive acquisition?

WLB? RTO? Benefits? Stock? I heard there's decent refreshers but the TCs for ICB2 dont look that great (on levels). #broadcom #vmware TC 169, 1

169 for ICB2 seems reasonable

Broadcom Ltd. WinWi Jan 12, 2023

That is about if not lower than the ICB2 pay

VMware qjcd61 Jan 12, 2023

+1 to this question. I’m very curious about the health benefits, maternity/paternity leave

Broadcom Ltd. WinWi Jan 12, 2023

Health benefits are very very good imo. Maternity/paternity leave are 2 weeks

VMware eggcentric Jan 12, 2023

Looks like Broadcom expects people to not have kids. 2 week maternity/paternity leave is no good

Hey! I’m a recently joined ICB2! My TC is 164k but could rise if stock prices rise (which is likely). I think I got a slightly lesser stock deal, but they wouldn’t budge on it. And the overall package was waay better than what I had already so I’m content.

Where did u join from?

I hope they preserve VMware paternity/maternity benefits for VMware employees for about a year after acquisition. Then again, who wants to take 18weeks parental leave when their employer is doing ✂️

Broadcom Ltd. Silicones Jan 12, 2023

This is probably typical for icb2 depending on area. I’d be cautious though; general rule of thumb for any acquisition is that the acquirer will generally clear out the acquired company in lieu of their own personnel. Stay but try to actively search just in case

Thanks for the replies Broadcom. Wasnt sure about TC because levels.fyi info is sparse and glassdoor is trash.

Join Broadcom just for TC, nothing else. Culture is very different from SW or startups. You come to work (100% on-site) and make money that’s it. No free snacks no beers no after work hangouts. WLB is ok. If you are promoted to ICB4 and up, TC is faang level. CEO is like an Asian parent but makes RSU grow so I don’t complain.

VMware ...🥳 Jan 13, 2023

It does seem like AVGO is much more skewed to RSU comp, which has it's pluses and minuses. As a P5 at vmw I get around 320K TC, around 240k base, 50K RSU/yr and a 22%? bonus target. It's actually slightly more since we get things like patent bonuses, wellness benefits, etc. ICB5 base is like $160k at AVGO, so we will see how they decide to reconcile that gap, maybe P5 will actually map to ICB6.

Broadcom Ltd. PztM34 Jan 13, 2023

240base is even too high for ICB6

Broadcom Ltd. whxnns Jan 14, 2023

Worked there for 10 years in hardware. Great company to learn and grow because of transparency and nobody has time to gate keep. Pay was top notch you joined 4 years ago when they granted 4yrs worth of RSU at once. Now it’s still competitive because hock is a wolf and Wall Street loves wolves. Your stock will grow in good times and hold their value in bad times.

Not a lot of 1CB2s at Broadcom, nor a lot of jobs to move up with so there is that. Most of the staff are ICB5s so make of that what you will, although VMware is large enough that it may change some of how we do stuff, but I don’t expect by much. Comp is ok, refreshers are great, if you can make it 4+ years. Maternity leave isn’t great for tech, but better than non-tech.
