My son is 27 months and has been home all this while. We just started daycare for him and he cries every single time. Today was day 4 for him and it absolutely broke my heart to walk away from him while he was bawling his eyes out. I just need to know it’s gonna get better.
It will get better. Trust me. It would take at-least a month for him to get adjusted to the new environment. Don’t worry it is very hard especially with the first born.

How does he do after you've left? Having moved a few times, I've been through 5 different daycares with 3 kids. Normal transition time has been about two weeks. In one of them, my oldest was still crying 3-4 weeks in, so we switched back to the (more expensive / longer commute) center he had previously been at.
He usually settles down after a bit but he’s still pretty upset. This daycare sends us pictures and obviously they click them when he’s not crying.. so it’s hard to know how long he takes to settle down
We could watch our daughter in daycare via video monitoring when she went there. I can assure you the crying face you see when you are around changes to a very happy face after you leave. My daughter would make me so guilty when I dropped her at the daycare
My kid was home until 2. When we first started daycare he hated going. For 2 months it didn’t get better. We changed daycares. Within a week he was fine at drop off and now he is excited to go see his friends. While it’s normal for an adjustment, trust your gut and look at other places if it doesn’t seem right.

Let me add that crying at drop off especially at first is normal. What did it for us was that he wanted to leave immediately at pickup. It seemed different than sad to say bye and that he didn’t want to be there. 4 days is still very early in a new transition. Try finding a way to watch before pickup or other time without getting spotted. See if your kid is having fun. If it’s just the goodbye cry, they don’t have a lot of ways to tell you they love and will miss you. I think we were told that 2 weeks (but every kid is different) is a typical transition time. Enough for them to understand that you always come back etc. and some time to bond with the teachers.
It took my daughter about a month to be happy when we leave her. However, in about 2 weeks, she would recover quickly after we left. We used to drop by the day care to see her through a window (not interacting with her) right after nap or before lunch. See her play with others (even though she was unhappy when we left her), made us feel really good. Even after a year or so she sometimes cries after we drop her (esp after a long weekend or a vacation), but we know she will be fine. Parenthood is tough!!

It will take atleast a month for my daughter. Now a days she is very excited to see her friends and play there. Feed her something while pickup because some days they won’t eat anything the whole day.
Kids are stronger if the parents are strong. Just walk away like you don't care from the daycare.
Easier said than done
Keeping the drop offs short and similar routine helps the kids learn the new normal. The parents hanging around longer makes it harder for them. It gets better if you follow the same routine.
Exactly. Dont linger. You aren't doing anyone any favors. Drop off your kid, tell them you'll see them later, head out. In a few weeks they'll be fine.
