With open source databases being able to handle huge workloads, under what circumstances should one consider moving to oracle db? What use cases warrant an Oracle DB? I also wonder if oracle licenses are unnecessary when a Postgres or MySQL would do the job just fine. TC: 140k
It's also about support maybe... Does postgres or mySql provide support ? Some big customers want support
Percona provides support for their mysql.
Oracle database is dead. No new projects start in oracle db. AWS users use posgres or MySQL rds.
Can you imagine being degraded post failover because you need to purchase a license for your new database replica?
I suppose Oracle saw this coming and moved to middleware and application layer which in-turn are packaged with Oracle DBs.
What middleware and app layer does it offer?
Dynamodb was born because engineers at Amazon thought that Oracle db was providing lot of features that most usecases don't need and it caused pain points.
When your coders are shit and you want someone else to blame on when the whole thing burns down on release
