How many pages of resume you have?

Getting mixed reviews. Some people saying having more than 2 pages will be a flag? Is that true?

Having more than 1 page depends on YOE, if you are applying to like a very senior role I think it's more acceptable. Otherwise it's 1 page

Wells Fargo startup! OP May 3, 2019

With more than 10 YOE, still 1 page is optimal or can have 2 or more?

IBM 👌🏻 👌🏻 👌🏻 May 3, 2019

No, it’s never acceptable to have more than 1 page.

1 page, you're not so great that you deserve more than 1 page. If it can't fit on one page you probably are adding shitty fluff to your bullet points or including information that is super unnecessary. Also don't waste space with an objective line, everyone fucking knows what you are applying to, an objective line is redundant

I find it hard to summarize 10 yoe on one page. I used to strive for one, but it's no longer possible without leaving out large, valuable deliverables

Amazon firefly123 May 3, 2019

I agree, one page wasn’t sufficient before my current role which has been my most impactful yet. At some point you need to go to 2 and it hasn’t cost me any resume attention

I’m not sure if it’s a red flag, but I think it is ineffective. Most recruiters / hm’s are not going to spend the time deep diving in a multi page resume. Keep it short and highlight what you want them to see.

Amazon trailblzer May 3, 2019

Not a red flag, but yes the HM wouldn’t spend a lot of time on the resume. Would just look at the keywords.

More than one page is only applicable for CVs if you have patents and research publications

BluVector sparked May 3, 2019

I’ve never seen a resume more than a page in a half that went well

Genentech Raxe May 3, 2019

As an actual hiring manager, take as many pages as you need to accurately, yet succinctly tell your story. As long as you’re not wasting space with fluff it’s fine. No idea who hurt these other guys and gals that think 1pg is the rule

Groupon STCO30 May 3, 2019

While I don’t disagree with this, I think needing more than one page to accurately, yet succinctly tell their story is an exception and not the rule. It definitely makes sense to expand past one page if you have extensive research or decades of experience. I personally have seen more multi-page resumes from new grads / interns than experienced hires though which is where I think a lot of this harsh response is rooted. Also, if you are applying to a company that receives a high volume of resumes, it is incredibly important that a recruiter is able to quickly identify your resume as a star without needing to flip through pages of fluff.

Genentech Raxe May 3, 2019

Yeah not disagreeing with you. I should add that the resumes I see are research/scientific in nature, which tend to be longer.

Google SoLaLa May 3, 2019

No one, but no one, should have more than one page. I’ve been a hiring manager for more than a decade, I’ve been on Google Hiring committee for the past 5 years, and I can say I’ve never seen a second page that was worth it. Also, no photos, date of birth, number of kids and aspirational paragraphs please (mot talking to European candidates)

Raytheon mongolians May 3, 2019

I tend to keep my dick pics on page 2, so if you don't have time to make it that far, your loss, not mine.

Amazon DeepObsess May 3, 2019

I don't read resumes beyond the first page, but I do have multiple pages resume, just to keep track of what I actually did.

Amazon vLfK28 May 3, 2019

Resumes are only read by recruiters, most managers only care about your interview performance

Facebook TgvS35 May 3, 2019

Not true as someone who hired 3 ppl this week and isn’t a recruiter

Amgen Fin4eng May 3, 2019

2 pages is ideal for 8+ years.. but it might not take the entire separate page and it depends how diverse your experience is. Never more than 2 pages
