Now that many of us have RTO, how much comp would you give up to go back to being fully remote (assuming it makes sense in your role)? Most of the remote roles I see these days are with start-ups/non-public companies, so the security of a large company (and equity) is also part of the equation. Been back in the office for ~6 months and all I can think of is how much I miss not commuting, not playing office politics, and just generally being results-oriented (rather than scanning a badge). Definitely get sick more often too. It has been fun to be with my teammates, but that’s about it. #remotework #hybrid #wfh YOE: 12 TC: 280
RTO is worth like 30k-50k scaling with base pay imho...
Remote job allows me to buy a house in LCOL. And it pays better than that LCOL area. So my answer is "A house"
Im hybrid rn which is really the best of all worlds
That’s worst. You are neither in office but you have to stay in HCOL
Nah, its nice. My team is all based in the bay. We're all in office together 2 days a week. Hybrid is awful if people aren't in the office on the same days cause then you're on zoom all day but have a commute
$75k/yr
I would need a minimum of 200 after tax per day to make up the cost, 400 if you want to pay me for my time spent driving
In annual pre-tax somewhere between 75-150k
Why employees need to take this pay cut? Can’t companies open more offices in LCOL area?
Remote work is a dealbreaker for me. I’ll never go remote.
Awesome. Truly, I think if more people who hate WFH refused to do it and more people who hate RTO refused the office, working would be a borderline Utopia
Remote work is a 100% deal breaker for me. I won't work in an office again.
People don’t realized that RTO is a major paycut. It’s literally death by a million papercuts Gas, vehicle repairs, paying to park, risking violent attacks or theft in shady cities, high rent/mortgage prices, wasted time commuting, risky traffic, $15 city salads + rushing to clear the long azz line, spending time packing lunch, scheduling appointments around office days etc. When you do the math, it costs more than people think. And what it doesn’t cost you in cash, it will cost you in time. That’s the reality of it. IMO it’s cheaper to accept $190k remote than $220k RTO.
Not most*
Lol, changed to *many*
