I am not comfortable asking recruiter this particular question so asking here. Netflix's offer is almost double my current TC, but I wonder if it is worth it because I will have to leave U.S if I am terminated for bad performance (god forbid) because I have heard that Netflix fires without giving notice, so technically I will be out of status the moment I stop working for the H-1B petitioner Netflix. Are you a H1B worker working at Netflix? What is your plan if you are terminated? Do you know any H1B Worker who has been in similar situation? How did they manage to find a new job without status? Is there a grace period? Help me decide, friends. Thank you.
Don’t. It’s risky, My friend who was let go just had 30days payroll as part of severance package. USCIS 60day exemption only came into affect since 2016.
There is always a chance that companies may not be willing to do an H1B transfer, or regulations regarding the transfer may get stricter. — if you fear of underperforming don’t accept the offer. A rabbit at hand is always better than a rabbit behind the bush… or something like that ;)
Yeah but if there’s two rabbits behind the bush (doubling comp) that’s kind of tempting!
A fat rabbit is still a rabbit ;)
You can be fired for two reasons, either bad performance or gross misconduct. Employers typically give a notice of 2-3 weeks in case of poor performance unlike Netflix. There is no notice if you are fired for misconduct.
You need not have access to system, but need to be employed for few weeks until you get a new job. Also, I have heard that there is no performance improvement plan (PIP) at Netflix unlike most employers.
You can revoke his credentials but still give the notice and keep him in the payroll. 2 weeks notice is courtesy, not a requirement.
You are risking a lot. Trump is making it hard to even transfer H1Bs now. 80% of applications including transfers are getting delayed for additional proof. You could really fuck yourself if you get fired. Don’t do it.
I heard this as well. My friends lawyer told him that 70-80% application are getting RFEs
Go for it! Don't doubt yourself so much
👆👆this. Why the fuck are you doubting yourself so much? You are in America for fucks' sakes. So what if you have a 1% chance to go back to your country? Do you have outstanding arrest warrants back home? If not, ask all the naysayers to STFU, starting with your own inner doubting Thomas, and take the offer. Live!
I wud rather live an average life in the US instead of risking my immigration and having to move back. You guys clearly have f****ed up priorities in life.
Most companies have PIP but not Netflix. If you have a spouse who has h1b with approved 140 then go for it. If you are sole earner in family then it is lot more riskier
This is correct. I used the exact same reasoning when I made the switch.
Stay away, it is not worth the risk. Find a company that pay less and expect less so you can coast through the GC application.
Get another offer and use this one to negotiate
U would hv 60 days after they fire u
