For those (data scientist, sde, analyst) have exposure to disturbing contents, wonder how much of the exposure is (daily, weekly, occasionally), and if you experienced great degree of stress as results from it. How do you feel about your work in general? NOT asking content moderators who moderate content first hand. #meta #snap #twitter #youtube #social Yoe 4 Tc 150
I’m on the policy/operations side of content moderation, but it really depends on the content verticals you work. Hate speech and harassment? Not too bad. Terrorism, child porn, and gore? Can be pretty brutal. Misinformation? Usually a mixed bag. In eng/data roles, it’s probably not a daily issue, and there are ways you can minimize exposure, but to work with the data, you’re gonna be looking at it at least occasionally.
Agree, but I’d say hate speech can be really rough too. It would surprise most people (it did for me) how sick that stuff gets in the weirder pockets of communities and people get pretty imaginative in their ways of targeting other groups. After just a week of working on neo-Nazi language-catching ML projects, I felt pretty sick. The content moderators have a rough job.
Terrorism, child porn, suicide imagine/videos is the toughest ones I can think of. The more I think about it the more I feel depressed about human behaviors in general. And also feel I am a extremely lucky to have a regular job and family. If I have an attractive offer in those domain, don't know what due diligence I can do.
