How to ask for a salary raise?

I checked what my salary rank should be at Paysa and I found that I am way below avg. Besides looking for a new job, how should approach my manager about a salary raise to be at the right level?

You salary depends on your level. Your level depends on your years of experience (that's a very loose correlation -- obviously) and demonstrated performance. What level are you? What's our salary (what's your compa ratio)? What do you think your salary should be, based on your Paysa research.

The level doesn’t reflect experience and regarding demonstrated performance: there is not much objectivity with all the office politics. For what I see I should be making at least 10% to 20% more base salary. But still, wondering if a promotion should be the only way to get a pay raise. What about inflation?

Level reflects experience (not so much in terms of years, but in terms of SME, and impactful contribution). If your compa is low, then you should work with your manager to fix that. If you believe you should be higher level, them again discuss this with your manager. She can agree and can promote you (that'll need approval by the upper chain depending on yourlevel), or she can disagree and give you specific guidance on how to demonstrate readiness. Last but not least, you can get an external offer and try to negotiate a counter (typically stock) or jump out of the company, then interview and jump back in at a higher level. Trying to help you here, but that can be tricky without you sharing additional information... :)

Btw one way to have a meaningful conversation about readiness is to anchor it to the so called CSPs (career stage profiles). You can find them on hrweb

Be prepared to back up your ask, but have you just asked for it? You won’t get it unless you ask for it.
