I worked with this guy last year and felt very uncomfortible due to his inability to write code. (He is Applied Scientist2, converted from SDE) I am not sure what his major was (or thesis) but clearly he cant handle any issues in terms of coding at least. 1. Recently found out that he was asking stupid things to one of our engineer who wrote entire model class (yes hes NOT SCIENTIST). He never tried to debug nor look it up from online. All questions were very naive and simply stupid. (He was not able to even run the script nor modify it for his own sake) 2. He talks a lot. Very vocal. Act as if he is senior or manager. I can see that he will try to take credit while didnt contribute that much. He seems to be good at sql and data collection but thats just small part of his responsibility 3. He always ask someone to explore first when it comes to new area and requires some simple modeling code and then try to "CONTRIBUTE". 4. I once talked with him for deeper concepts about ML stuff and he is lack of basic concept. Im sure he just learnt by taking few coursera or youtube 5. He has weird sneaky behavior. He asks dumb questions to young folks who is reletively new to industry and burden the works to them. (Eg can we debug together it will be a good learning for you as well) Tldr, how to deal with this toxic person? Upper management does not know this factor since he always took credits especially from project teammates. TC AS3(recent promo) TC min band of AS3(sorry to not dox myself)
throw him under the bus. to be more clear since you clearly lack political savvy. let a project fail. blame him
All part of the project is delayed but he push those blame to other teammates with sneaky wordings. Very good at politics
And our skip is just too nice..
Steal his best practices. Ask him if you can kiss ass together, it will be a good learning opportunity for you
Can you give me an example of 4?
Cant be too specific but he clearly does not know the concept of softmax nor basic regularization approach
Why does this bother you? Just do your work and log off when you're done. You're getting too invested in work politics. That's for your manager to figured it out.
Evetually he comes to me and many young folks complain about this guy
