Hi blinders, First a little info about myself; I have a masters in CS and have 1 YOE as a Data Scientist. My team is working on creating automation solutions for clients networks by implementing Anomaly Detection models. But I do not want to work on this, while thinking about the things I want to do with my life I realised that I want to build something I would be proud of. I want to work in the Self-Driving vehicle industry like at Tesla, Zoox or Waymo. How do I get into these companies? What and where do I learn the “technical” skills to become a data scientist/MLE at these companies? Please give any pointers for a young lad who’s finally given some thought to his career other than TC and help me start on my knowledge quest. Thanks! #tech #autonomous #tesla #waymo #zoox
Get a PhD in Computer Vision or related area.
All you really need to do is get the interview then crack the interview. 1 YOE isn't a whole lot but once you get a few years of experience you will have an easier time getting interviews. Cracking interviews is just playing the game and prepping for ML interviews can't help here. As an aside, now is the worst time to be dreaming of working in autonomous vehicles since many of them had cuts or will eventually have cuts since it's a long term project. If you have a hard time getting into these top tech places try to get into lower tier companies like OEMs / Ford etc. The interviews will be a lot easier and there should be less competition.
All three of those companies are already fucked. You need to get into automotive.
Cool, what do I need to learn? I’m willing to spend the next 1-2 years if my life learning stuff that can make me suitable for a role at such companies
Try to get a referral. Easiest way to get in. Several of the big OEMs and suppliers are actively looking for people with SW backgrounds for this very purpose.
