How to get more than 200k base pay?

My current TC is 120k + 20k bonus at the end of year. YOE is 8 years. I want to switch and I have created a profile on hired.com / vettery.com where I have mentioned 200k as expected base pay, but not getting any calls from recruiters. People on blind mentioning 300k, 400k. Which job board you are applying through? Is it all referral ?

Most of these 300k people are probably trolls trying to make people envious. I myself have always been open about how I make less than one-sixth of that; I feel no insecurity.

Uber 2muchblind Mar 30, 2019

No, they’re not fake. Check levels.fyi. Note, they are probably in areas like the Bay Area, Seattle, or New York, and working for a well-known tech company, which is hard to get into. Hence all the Leetcode masturbation. But yeah, 300, 400, 500, it’s all true at the FAANG, PAUL, Tesla, etc.

Tableau krxi15 Mar 30, 2019

Not at TESLA. But yes, rest of it is true. 300k comp at a known tech company in bay area is common.

What difference does it make if it's base pay or stock? Money is money..

Oscar 🐨koala Mar 30, 2019

Base is hard money. Stock is soft paper money. It is subjected to stock performance. Facebook dropped from 200s to 140 last year and if you sold at 166 today you ”lost” a chunk of your “tc”.

Amazon OTdS88 Mar 30, 2019

That's not true, most companies top you up if the stock price drops

145 no bonus. You can become Engineering Manager for 175 base with experience in management. The crazy numbers on a anonymous app should not force your decision making :)

They could be in a different location than you with a more expensive quality of living. They may be super specialized in something important to their company that not many other people know Or, more likely, they’re pulling that number out of their ass.

May be. I am in NJ right now. 20 min bus ride to NY city. Looking for job in NY.

Morgan Stanley 145k Apr 1, 2019

NY you can get it in some roles/areas. I know Finance you could feasibly hit 200k base but in general ITs are under-appreciated on non-IT companies. They will force you to earn that money...

Zynga Hola123 Mar 30, 2019

I'm always surprised by the responses that these numbers are made up. I've found numbers on Blind to be spot on actually. Why live in denial?

Zynga Hola123 Mar 30, 2019

People mentioning 300-500k are usually working at the top tier companies where RSUs are a significant factor in TC.

Uber 2muchblind Mar 30, 2019

Exactly. You’ll rarely find more than 250k base salary, and that’s at the upper tiers. Someone making 400 would be like, 180 base, 10% bonus, 200k in RSUs vesting per year (including initial grant plus refresher).

Accurate

Morgan Stanley tfti Mar 30, 2019

You're looking to jump from 140k TC to over 200k?

Opus Consulting framework OP Mar 30, 2019

Why not ? Is that not possible?

Amazon LuSn47 Mar 30, 2019

Very possible, I jumped from 120k to 220k

Salesforce waluigi Mar 30, 2019

I’m in the 190s base

Opus Consulting framework OP Mar 30, 2019

That's great..what position and skills?

Salesforce waluigi Mar 30, 2019

Lead swe. Development

Oracle aiabc Mar 30, 2019

200+ in management , but specialized skills worked as ICs , non OCI

Roku Mr.T Mar 30, 2019

Roku pays 200+ base easily but their RSU component is lower than most other companies.

Opus Consulting framework OP Mar 30, 2019

Ohh, that's good. which location? Dont care that much about RSU. I am on H1B, I want to complete 6 years with good cash saved and move back.

VMware Flambeau Mar 30, 2019

You will, when you see someone make 200k base and get RSUs/refreshers.
