I have a written IC2 offer from Dropbox and Meta is going to make me an E4 offer. I am trying to set salary expectations for Google, but they are offering me L3 so I know comp will be lower. I like the team at Google a lot, and I am not interested in Meta, but there's no way Google will match Dropbox or Meta in comp. Max L3 offers I have seen (Boulder office) are around 220K. How do I negotiate Google up to compete with offers in the ~250-260+ range? Is there any way to get a big sign-on bonus from Google to inflate year 1 comp, then go for quick promo to L4, or something like that? Or just forget Google and go with Dropbox? How quickly could I reasonably get promoted to L4 with ~2.5 yoe? Is it worth risking that, or better to join elsewhere at a higher level? TC 145k, 2.5 yoe #google
Come to Dropbox, u can always try google again later.
Yeah I probably will :) Is there anything you don't like about Dropbox or are worried about? Playing devil's advocate a little here
Hahaha, the only catch is that the stock is flat, but flat going up or down, we’ve been pretty resilient so far comparing to a lot others and still profitable. But do consider getting a financial adviser and reinvest. The culture is so chill, maybe too chill depending on ur comfort level. Also, being remote means u will miss out the connection from in-office, but company is paying for folks to travel for offsite quarterly! (Pby no travel for u if u r in Bay Area) Which is nice improvement, and u don’t get beat up for not coming because of whatever. Other than that, maybe turnover? But it isn’t different from my last company, rn lots of ppl r reshuffling. Good luck! And if u do end up here then welcome!!! I myself chose Dropbox over Google, Meta, and Amazon 😉
IMO the stock upside for Google is better than that of Meta and Dropbox. DBX has not looked great over the last 5 years and FB's bottom dropped out even before the correction. Your TC may be lower but the long term view could be much better.
I assume the only way to increase tc is to be evaluated as L4. Maybe you could ask to do a follow up interview for L4 or something, but otherwise I’m not sure what advice you’re looking for here.
Yeah I guess I wasn't too clear. I'm wondering a) how high I can reasonably expect Google to go for L3, and b) if it's possible to get promoted to L4 quickly or more worth it to join at the higher level somewhere else
I assume G should basically be dead to you without L4. Regardless of what they can offer for L3, Meta/Dropbox will be able to easily counter Google’s offer with their max E4 budgets. 220k in Colorado is correct according to levels.fyi. Also, you should be focusing on getting promoted to L5, not L4.
