Need this community’s help and advice to negotiate a +15% salary increase, which is higher than a typical promotion increase (8-10%) in my situation Came to know a colleague earns 15% more than me, positioned at the same level and with an average performance Previously, my manager dismissed my ask of increasing salary due to “limited budget” and “nothing that i can do”. After learning this salary gap with the colleague, it dimishes my trust and makes me feel underappreciated (i am one of the top performing people in the team) Keen to hear some advice and suggestions! Thanks in advance!
Read “Fearless Salary Negotiation” book, it’s short and straight to the point. Best 50 bucks I’ve spent on my career development!
Best way would be to get an offer from another company with that extra 15% assuming you want to stay. I would recommend leaving if you can.
Focus on your strengths and values, not your colleagues, you will always have colleagues that make more than you even with less skill and experience. The race is against yourself.
Focus on leetcode
Focus on strengths. If your skills are in demand and team understaffed you should not have a problem. Why? Because manager is afraid of losing you. The cost of hiring your replacement and the workflow distruption is probably comparable to your demands. First: research labour market Second: make demand, emphasize why paying you more does more for company Third: keep mentioning it, it may take time for manager to free up funds Fourth: if you don't get it, and really want thst raise, exit stage right
Your frame of reference is all wrong, it isn’t a negotiation with your manager it is a discussion. If your a top performer your manager can pull for you to get a bit more comp. Tell them what you’re looking for.. Have this discussion only if you want to stay.

Women, help me understand why this is inspirational
Do you and your colleague have the same years or experience? And did you both join the company around the same time? That also has little say in pay difference.
Very true. This colleague does have 2 more years of experience. With that said, I had waited for nearly a year just to check if that makes this colleague stand out more than me. I joined earlier.
Your salary has as much to do with skill/xp/personality as it has to do with your negotiation and the manager's desperation to find people to get the job done.
