Be real. Be genuine... especially when you have a different or unpopular opinion. Make the choice to trust people instead of being tactical. Authenticity is in such short supply at tech companies that when someone is totally real with me it's like a lightning bolt. It's someone acknowledging the bizarre fly paper we are all stuck to. It's goes a long way.
Is it worth it being genuine?
Generally speaking, this is good advice. But it doesn't hold true in many situations. Politics and religion are tough ones.

It depends on your moral alignment. For example, you can most certainly break rule #1 in that post and be very successful. That rule says to not talk shit about other. But if you do, do it with the right person, nothing makes a stronger bond that hating on the same person, especially if the interlocutor is someone who can help your career grow
Cultures differ a bit but you never want to be a bull when you’re new. You never want be perceived as mean, no matter what the issue. You don’t want to outshine people. Basically, earn people’s respect — even the janitors respect by being a fair and hard working person. Also if you have any jerks or condescending coworkers, don’t mingle too much as you’ll be tempted to become one or then.
