How do I really break into tech? Ive been a developer for about 2 years but not getting paid big fat greedy salary and don't know how to go about getting a job at those companies. Applying and referrals dont seem to work...resume has been looked over x amount of times...No contacts from any recruiter....Am I screwed? Is this my life? Bottom barrel? Do I need to start selling drugs? TC: 62K NY Metro Area Roughly 2 YoE #tech #layoffs #hiring #google #amazon #meta #apple #recruiting
Do you even want to? Most of us don’t like it here and want to find a real career, like healthcare or law
Well I actually enjoy coding and wouldnt mind doing it. Just would like to get paid a decent salary
I liked coding too. I hate software engineering as a job. I don’t think you know what this field is like tbh
Referrals don’t really seem to make a difference anymore. The harsh truth is there aren’t enough jobs and there ones there are aren’t really worth working
Already hav had resumes looked over. Literally the last sentence :). Nowhere in my post has it mentioned anything about a pity party. Literally just asking for some quick suggestions. No need to be the one angry person in the comment section. That sounds stressful
DM for Raytheon, citizenship goes a long way
Just keep grinding, OP! You'll get the breakthrough eventually. Always be on the lookout for career advancement whether that's a new company or project within your current one. Market the hell out of whatever you can on LinkedIn and you'll get recruiters contacting you. Don't expect to hit FAANG in one year, it might take a jump or two. You're climbing a ladder just like everyone else... one rung at a time 😃
