How to resign like a boss?

I'm planning to leave Lyft and want to make sure I'm not doing anything stupid while resigning. 1. How do I make sure I get all of my vested RSUs? Specially the last cycle. What documents should I collect? 2. Considering that I'm taking a few months off, what will happen to the insurance? Is COBRA backdating safe to rely on? 3. What documents I should and should not sign in the exit interview? 4. What day of the week is best? How much notice I should give?

Take some vacation before leaving if you have not used it this year.

1) don't give notice until they land, especially if going to a competitor. 2) I was traveling most of the time during my time off, so I just bought travel insurance for the duration. It's not that expensive. 3) don't sign anything. Though they might track you down at your next position and make you sign something, but you'll be working with your legal team so that's okay. 4) Try to give two weeks notice at least, more if you are really tangled up in things. Or work on the documentation/brain dump you need to write early, so it's available. Day of week doesn't matter, but if your salary is prorated by day of month (not just business days), then Monday is the best last day. :)

Thank you!

Leave as early in a month as you can so you will have Lyft health insurance for that month.

How you tag companies?

What's wrong with signing something when you quit? Isn't it usually a confidentiality agreement?

Why sign something without getting something in return? You’re basically turning over your rights (to sue, etc.) with nothing in exchange.

I gave 2 weeks notice at a small company several years back, after over 3 years. (I resigned from a terrible recently-hired boss). The terrible boss asked me to leave next-day, and to add insult to injury, he got the HR department to require a never-sue indemnity agreement as condition for getting paid for one of the two weeks’ notice period. I liked the company (wouldn’t have sued), but on principle wouldn’t sign such a severance agreement. By comparison, when I opted to leave my past job for Splunk, the previous boss asked if I could stay 3 weeks instead of just 2, so I didn’t get time off between jobs. You never know how it’ll go when you turn in notice. Those are just 2 of my examples.

1. Collect your grant documents and verify with your accounting/equity department your current vesting. Try to get a printout/acknowledgement. Do you have some electronic system for managing shares? 2. You can elect COBRA for up to 60 days after leaving. If it’s “a few months” better to get COBRA for those few months. Health insurance will work through last day of current month so you have some buffer time too
