How are things inside GM? I am currently applying there but with news about Ford today, is GM doing good or what? Only insiders will know Tc 105k
GM is definitely headed towards a large layoff - question is on timing. There are so many teams that have nothing to do. This can’t be sustained
I’ve been wondering about layoffs since they announced the hiring freeze. I’m just hoping nothing happens before February. I’m not too worried about finding something else but missing that bonus will hurt especially if it’s a big one like this year.
Next year bonus can no way be a 200% again. That's just my opinion
Good news is that it won’t be a big one. 90% is the most likely target. If we get 100, we should be super happy!
You have to look at what direction these automotive companies are headed. The prospect is cutting jobs from specific business areas to make room or money in others. If I was working on ICE, yeah I would be a little worried, but ICE isn't going away completely, probably ever.
I am applying to continental ( Tire team) and ZF ( Brake controls) . Maybe these 2 are better than GM now
I'm currently doing the opposite
I don't see how GM could possibly NOT have layoffs, but at the same time we're making more money than ever
I’ve been wondering about layoffs since they gave all new college hires a ~20K raise then suddenly had a hiring freeze. There are wayyy too many NCH and with 20K increase they will probably feel they need to make some cuts. Wouldn’t be surprised at all if layoffs start coming. Management has been radio silent since telling us about the freeze. No clear updates.
Yup - good point — that huge raise has to have an impact — especially since there’s a large chunk of those NCH that bring very minimal value in return.
I know. Starting at 84 k straight out of college is insane.
I’m sure there will be massive layoffs in GM based on their track record.
Yes, IT is expensive and I won’t be surprised if they even cut or dissolve newly formed non-critical teams that have pretty much nothing to do, especially because they won’t be hiring new talent anymore.
I can almost guarantee that there would be big reduction in headcount (either layoff or most likely internal moves) in DBTT
Honestly hard to gauge. GM tends to shutter plants and programs. If you're in anything that's bev, fuel cell or SW related you're probably safe. ICE programs outside of performance is hard to say.
Financially, GM is doing fine. Ford's new programs are costing them a fuck ton in recall costs.
Didnt GMIT have layoff pre pandemic?
And they will have it again. If you are still working at GM and not looking elsewhere you are a fool
That's grim
TC is lowest of the low. Need a raise over there
Chrysler is lower
