Got 2 offers for summer 2023, software engineer intern. The pay and location might seem like BOA is a no brainer. But I had a pretty unprofessional experience with the BOA hiring process, which makes me question the work environment. The first interviewer called 40 minutes early, second one called 3 hours late and was driving her cat to the vet while she was on the phone (don’t know why she told me that). Amex on the other hand, have been super professional. Details listed below. Also would appreciate any insight from employees the work for them (or used to). BOA: - $42/hour - $61/hour overtime pay - Dallas, Texas (my current location) - $3.4k sign on bonus Amex: - $40/hour - No mentioned overtime pay - Phoenix, Arizona - $5k sign on bonus - Free food on campus (this is a factor for me personally) - pretty much guaranteed full time position offered at the end of internship
You get sign-on bonus for internship! Never heard of that?
Worked at bofa. Most of the interns do not enjoy their time at the company. The tech culture at the company level is non existant. Tech culture at team level may be good. A lot of interns do not return for fte, they usually get better jobs. A lot of folks try to leave after 1 to 3 years. Though people do stay for a very long time. That being said great Job security for tech people and generally fantastic wlb like 20 hours or less of work.
Wow thanks for telling me that
It's good place in current economy and also most people if not get fte offers.. Bofa loves their new grads and interns. You can chill for couple of years and leetcode. I learnt a ton when I worked there but my skip had gotten like special budget to hire people and she went ahead and hand picked people. Eventually most of my team resigned and I quit after.
free food on campus isn't just money saving, it's time and energy saving, the base rate isn't that different
Neither. They’re both immoral companies
So is Uber
Companies are all amoral at best. No companies are moral. They are designed to be that way.
BOA, Amex ain’t that professional overall
Lmao. Based much?
It ain’t. Their recruiting/ onboarding was a joke
Fuck unprofessional interviewers. This shows you that they don’t respect you or your time. If that’s how they think now when they aren’t paying you , it’s gonna get worse after hiring you.
Amex 100%. I work for them. It is so relaxed and professional
Really depends on the team more than the org for a summer position imo. And many times it is very difficult to get a full understanding from the outside. Likely if they didn't take the time to prepare for the interview with you, they will not have taken the time to prepare a good slate of work for the summer. Hopefully you asked specifics about what you will be working on.
Negotiate a black card as part of your Amex package 😆
Can interns even negotiate😂😂
Lol true
