Huawei HarmonyOS
What is everyone's opinion on Huawei Harmony OS in replacing Android system and US sanction??? Guess Huawei wasn't lying that they have a backup OS. I think the Harmony OS will eventually pick up speed, and build up its own developer and app ecosystem with the support of the government. Afterall, the China government does want less dependency on US, and there are more developer in China than US, and will only be a matter of time before they catch up. Did Google and Trump shot it's foot this time??? Curious to know what is your opinion on this.
Until Huawei can figure out how to innovate and not just blantantly steal other companies IP, they will always be playing catch up. Chinese society is not set up for the risk taking that drives Silicon valley style innovation.

This has nothing to do with Trump. Do you even know how much time & effort it takes to build an OS. It's not like Trump announced in Q1 2019, Huawei started coding OS and it's done now. They were already working on it! It took Apple 10 years to read USB on iOS, do you think Huwaei made OS in few months cz of Trump?! Getting rid of US dependencies was always on their Agenda.

Nothing is ahead of time. You should never believe Huwaei mere keynote. Huawei and Chinese are known to lie at times. Believe me, reality is at least few years away.
Alibaba and Baidu have tried this before also I think

Kinda but not sure about the OS in detail whether it is a fork of android or not. As which OS to use, it is still in debate right now, as the trade war is not yet settle. It definitely did a raise a red flag for dependency.
Which means they can sell as many phones as possible right now before Trump decides to hammer them again
In the future China will be the bigger market where economics of scale will play out. After second world war US benefited from market size. Now it is China’s turn.
Even if harmony OS is proved as a hoax this time, in the long term China would switch to their own CPUs(RISC-V), OS and subnetwork. It's interesting to find that when US authorities/corp s don't provide enough resources, researchers would switch to those Open-Foobars funded by Chinese authority.
