After about 150 applications I was able to get a great Senior Security Engineer 2 offer from Hubspot For the overall job market I didn't find a ton of openings, most of the companies I looked at had no good security engineering roles open right now, and most of my applications (at least 67) resulted in generic reject emails. Around 70 applications were completely ignored. I had calls with 15 companies and most ended at the HR or HM screen phases, which historically have been mostly formalities that I almost always make it to the next round after but this time I had significantly less success. I only got rejected after technical rounds 3 times, with 2 tech screens and 1 take home coding assessment. I had one hiring manager screen where the conversation was excellent but he felt the position would bore me so he was willing to continue but said it would be a down level and he encouraged me to look for something else. For interview prep I had a nice prep process outlined but I got lazy and accidentally ended up applying earlier than intended after getting referred by an old coworker so I only did 3 or 4 Leetcode easy problems and read a few articles and portswigger web academy posts. All three onsites resulted in offers, 2 verbal and the hubspot offer I accepted. I ended up getting a much higher offer than I expected from Hubspot, it looks like they recently increased their bands and also I was fortunate to have great interview feedback. I really enjoyed their interview style, it was very conversational and I feel the engineers guided the conversations in ways that really let me show my expertise. For negotiation I didn't really have competing offers so I just used my recent exceeds rating and potential promo, initial offer was $315k first year tc and I just asked for at least 400 based on Senior security engineer bands I've seen online Offer breakdowns: Walmart Lead Security Engineer: $220k tc Expedia Senior Enterprise Security Architect: Verbal offer for a down level Hubspot Senior Security Engineer 2: $403k first year tc, $245 base, $400k/3 RSU, $25k sign on YOE:4 TC:$260k #security #securityengineer #hubspot
i wonder if that maps to sswe2, good offer, happy for you
Thanks, can't wait to start! I was told it was security bands map to ~8% higher than same level swe bands
$400k at 4yoe in this economy is like $800k 2 years ago.
Yes I was very fortunate to get an awesome offer, team and recruiter were both great
There was post Hubspot bands increased just in April it maps to new pay band.
Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉. Very happy for you. The base maps to the new bands for sswe 2 on the product as well ( but bands are range, so this might be starting band in security but can confirm it's mid for product) . RSU are on target.
So are the salaries for product on levels.fyi old and lower than what hubspot currently offers?
If you sort based on date , the recent ones should give you a fair idea and I think it maps to the new bands. And also with hubspot you should be able to find the band in the job description ( it's the same band and pretty transparent)
Great offer. Congrats
Congratulations!
Congratulations! Didn’t know hubspot pays this well for security engineering.
I was told security engineer bands were about 8% higher than devs at the same level at hubspot
