I am evaluating Hubspot offer and am trying to see if I’m being lowballed or this is just what they pay. Base: 140 RSU: 75 (vests over 4 years quarterly after one year cliff) Level: senior I dont have a competing offer at the moment but a couple of other places Ive been talking to have a much higher RSUs and some have a bonus with about the same base. In addition my last place (not public) had TC of 188K ( base plus bonus). EOE: 10
Just to clarify: is the 75/year or total?
Total. Vesting 100% over four years. So after first year getting 75/4 etc.
I’d look for different roles, if I were in your shoes. Use levels as a rule of thumb.
What role? Senior what.
Senior UX designee
Do you have any competing offers? How does this TC compare to your current job?
Not at the moment. My TC at my last place was higher that the offer (it was private company so no RSU, but base and bonus was higher than this offer). However, I’m not at that place anymore. The place that I’m currently 1/2 way through the interview process would have a higher offer than Hubspot but I’m not there yet and Hubspot is pressuring me to sign the offer…
Not sure about location or the company specifically, but I’d expect a higher base and much higher RSU for a senior-level UX role. (No refreshers? Even worse.) It’s not in line with industry standard. Personally I’d negotiate, especially given it’s lower than your previous package.
Refreshers are performance dependent and aren’t written into anything and aren’t guaranteed of course..
I’ve been interested in HubSpot over the years and based on my research, I think this is standard. Their salaries are more in line with MCOL areas (e.g., Midwest) than NYC/SF. I don’t know a ton about Boston-area salaries but from what I’ve heard, they seem to be relatively lower overall. Is this role remote? I believe that several of their roles are remote, which may also explain why the salary is lower than HCOL areas. If this is their initial offer, then you should def try to negotiate: increased base, sign-on bonus and more RSUs.
Boston is a fairly HCOL - maybe not SF or NYC level, but close. I work with a lot of people that are there. Also, how’s Asana? I’ve heard good things about the company!
I used to live in Boston and agree that it’s a higher cost of living, but based on discussions with friends and calls with recruiters in the past, have not found salaries to be on par. It’s surprising considering that it’s not a cheap place to live! As far as Asana, I’ve really enjoyed my experience here. It lives up to the hype! Feel free to DM me if you have questions or are interested in applying.
That makes sense, thank you! I’ll give it a shot. WLB and culture is what is attracting me for sure so it’s not all about money. :)
RSU amount does not work like that. they grant an X dollar amount. Company holds quarterly meetings to approve all grants. once approved the number of RSUs is calculated based off of $grantAmountOnOffer/AvgpriceOfShare the month prior to that meeting. You’ll have to wait until january until that next meeting.
That’s the standard package, I believe top of the band for senior PD/UX level 1 - I countered and got a better RSU package and signing bonus but they wouldn’t budge on base salary. That being said - I’ve found the company to be fantastic. Best WLB I’ve ever had. 95% of my coworkers are great people. Unlimited PTO is real - I never have to question or feel guilty about taking time off whenever I need. VP of design and directors engage with designers of every level.
Not sure if you accepted but I just took HubSpot offer and start Dec 1 message me if you want to connect
