I have Data Science degree from CMU and previously worked at new grad at FAANG, and then left to work for a friend (TC 300k). Friend did well with crypto, and hired a couple of contractors (me included). I created LinkedIn recently and just put 'Software Engineer at Trading Firm'. I had a lot of recruiters reach out from trading firms such as Citadel and Hudson River Trading. The recruiters ask 'where do you work at?'. I am not sure what to respond to them, would appreciate some insight.
What ever was the name of your friends company is what you tell them without elaborating or you could just say a PE firm and say you cannot disclose more details since you have a NDA
I wasn't paid in typical W2 fashion, it was more like contract work and under 'Other Income' on my taxes. If I did get offers I could show my 2021 taxes which I filed, for my background checks. 2022 taxes I have not filed yet.
No body asks for W2s. As long as the company can verify your role, the background check should be good
