I used to work at a bank before joining msft. At the bank i was part of and honestly at other banks, it was totally normal to never have all team members in the same office or same location. All communication was through Teams, Zoom, Skype, webex and were virtual first. But in faang type companies I see there is a lot of arguments about hybrid culture. Was it not normal to have teams split across offices pre covid? TC:165K #wfh #rto #remote #hybrid #layoff #recession #bigtech

If I recall correctly even outside of FAANG prior to Covid ,respective orgs/groups were mostly categorized by location. So most employees working on similar things were centralized in a given area. Now with Covid tech companies are hiring folks for not only same role, but same org all over the country heck even the world. Now that people have gotten used to remote work or are living in areas more to suit their lifestyle of preference , people are complaining about the forced back to work via hybrid. Imagine during Covid moving to a home 3 hours from your work office, only to get an email you have to go back to office 2 days a week. Really rough…for any one
I see. Yeah people used to wfh when needed at previous bank. Never did we have problems. Yeah, we were not really centralized I mean you could meet people in different division
