I am canceling all subscriptions through Apple.

I feel that Apple practices are anti competitive and harm consumers. Even companies which try to explain to users exactly where their money is going are being blocked by Apple. https://www.theverge.com/2020/8/28/21405140/apple-rejects-facebook-update-30-percent-cut I am going to take what little power I have as a consumer and cancel my app based subscriptions through Apple, such as Disney+. From now on, I will create accounts and purchase content directly from the vendors website instead of through in-app purchase. You can argue all you want that Apple has a right to take 30% cut but blocking apps who tell you this has gone too far. Edit: I will also stop using Apple Pay and ditch spending on my Apple Card. #tech #appstore #playstore #cancelapple

Google bIt-on-🔥 Aug 29, 2020

Very well. Also consider boycotting services that don’t pay their drivers a living wage.

Lyft /merge OP Aug 29, 2020

If that is what you believe, that is your choice as a consumer!

Facebook iscbjorfhj Aug 29, 2020

Living wage is $50 per hour.

Belkin International darkice8 Aug 29, 2020

What I find ridiculous is they charge 30% for doing very little, while Amazon charge 22% for a much more resources intensive and comprehensive service. Should be 15% or 20% imho

Lyft /merge OP Aug 29, 2020

It can be 50%. The issue is they don’t allow you a choice. 30% to use their payment processing but they ban you for not using their payment processing.

Facebook FANG4EVER Aug 31, 2020

The experience of using a phone would suck if you had to give every app your credit card info to enable an in app purchase.

CGI NVRs18 Aug 29, 2020

This shits been happening for over a decade and now people care? That's hopping on the band wagon at its finest. No one cared 3 months ago. Stop being fucking sheep.

Lyft /merge OP Aug 29, 2020

We have to start at some point. Many companies are afraid to speak up because Apple will punish them.

CGI NVRs18 Aug 29, 2020

Nah apple punishes users who break the rules. Don't break the rules and you won't be punished. Don't like the rules? Don't use the platform.

I ain’t going nowhere. I’m still going to use the same services I use now, I will just be paying them directly.

Apple AAPL!! Aug 29, 2020

How is this any different from what Costco and Walmart do with actual products? What is your plan next? Live in an isolated village and grow your food? All businesses who are selling you stuff are taking a cut. What is Apple doing is what every business does.

Lyft /merge OP Aug 29, 2020

I’m not living in isolation. I will be using the exact same services I use now. This is exactly what Apple wants. They say if you don’t want them to take 30%, don’t purchase through the App Store, so I’m not...

Apple AAPL!! Aug 29, 2020

Yes do what you want. I am just pointing out the fact that all businesses do this you are just choosing to label some being evil and some not.

Medallia st0nks60 Aug 29, 2020

Doesn’t it cost the same regardless? Or there’s discount for registering a membership through web?

Lyft /merge OP Aug 29, 2020

Depends on the service. Most cost the same but the developer is getting the full amount instead of giving a cut to Apple. Apple did actually try to force the developers to charge the same price for in and out of App Store but they had to backtrack on that policy.

Facebook _poe_ Aug 29, 2020

This person gets it. It’s not about how much you charge, it’s about transparency. Apple is always known to be secretive and they are doing the same when it comes to informing their users about the extra charge.

OfferUp e3Xzy7a Aug 29, 2020

Users as in companies that goes through their platforms? I'm positive their legal council poured over those contacts and knew about the costs. Users as in the guy who uses the app? What do I care? It's not like they're offering a discount if I go through their company site instead of the Apple app store. But they charge the same price. So it's not about any of the bs rhetoric they're claiming, they just want the whole pie riding off of someone else's platform. It's like a company trying to make and sell a switch cartridge and not pay Nintendo. This model is literally everywhere, epic just wrapped it in some buzzwords and tried to get folks to be outraged by an age old practice

Until you ditch that iphone and stop giving apple market monopoly it's all just empty talk

Uber uberTwo Aug 29, 2020

Microsoft still has the windows but doesn’t ask everyone to pay a part on the transactions on the platform. We want to keep the iPhone, but not pay Apple for what it doesn’t produce.

Lyft /merge OP Aug 29, 2020

It’s not empty talk if I give them less money, as I now am.

Lyft /merge OP Aug 29, 2020

I agree with you but I can feasibly Ditch decides which I need to run my every day life. So I am doing what I can
