To join Amazon, I left a really good job that begged me to stay, even offering an instant promotion and significant raise to keep me. I left because the work/product at Amazon seemed exciting and innovative, the pay was great, and most importantly, they PROMISED me that the company was committed to remaining remote and that my job would always be virtual. I could not have possibly articulated more clearly to them that I am a family person and that being available in mornings and evenings to see my children is of the utmost importance to me. They confidently old me it would never be a problem. Even when the RTO news leaked at Amazon, my leaders continued to tell me I had nothing to worry about. They promised my role was virtual and that they would accommodate me however they could. Lie by lie, that illusion has dissolved, and now I am facing the option to travel an insane number of hours every week just to make it to an office where none of my team is, or lose my job. I have a family and a newborn - my entire life is here. They couldn't care less. And it all comes with no actual benefit to my work - RTO will actually greatly hinder my ability to continue doing great work. I love my job, and I love my teammates. But I can't let a job destroy my family life - and my trust in Amazon at this point has completely evaporated. There is zero integrity among senior leadership. When I joined a couple years ago, I really planned to stay here for a long time. It's really sad that it has come to this. If your company has any tech or non-tech Learning and Development, Program Management, or Product Management opportunities, please reach out. I have a long track record of success and saving the companies I work for lots of money. More importantly, I strive my best to be the type of person that people look forward to working with. Teams are so much more productive whenever people are looking out for each other and not just themselves. Please reach out if you can help, I promise it will be mutually beneficial. Thank you. Help to Choose Offer
There needs to be a union in Amazon for IT .. look at UPS
Careful what you wish for. TC would go down for sure.
That just isn’t true. Look at TC bump for UPS drivers
I’ve noticed a trend of some managers saying anything needed to get what they want. Unfortunately it takes time to test their word. My current manager has promised things she cannot keep multiple times. It’s eroded trust completely. As a manager, please don’t say things you can’t guarantee, it really destroys all trust.
Yeah same here. At the end of the day, I know that I don't need to keep my end of bargain. I wouldn't bother about kt or documentation when I have to leave
Managers get to spend their trust budget and this is how they do it. Says a lot about how they see their team members
“I love my job, and I love my teammates. But I can't let a job destroy my family life” Well said. I once had mixed feeling about having to lose my job and nice teammates because of it. But now I'm gonna use this sentence when they get to me.
I mean, yeah it sucks. But in hindsight how could you place trust in Amazon? Were you chasing prestige, TC, or both? Why did you leave the place that begged you to stay? You cannot trust any of the fangs to have your best interest in mind. Period. Thats not how big corporations work.
There’s always an option. Unless you are L7+, you can get exception

At lot of us are on the same boat, good luck OP 🙏🏾
Might you consider reaching out to your previous employer? And totally get what you mean - I feel similarly about RTO.
So that his previous employer might take advantage of OPs situation?
If nothing else, it's a competing offer
Same boat here. Not sure how it will make me and my work better by sitting alone in the office as I am the only one in this area from my org :/
It’s less about efficiency and more about power trip.
So sorry this is happening. You’re really leaning into your values in deciding to leave! Hope you can land a cool remote role.
Thank you! It is happening at such an unfortunate time with how the job market is, too. In years past, I would have had absolutely no problem landing interviews without a network referral. But now it seems nearly impossible with every opportunity receiving hundreds or even thousands of applicants. But I will do whatever it takes!
