Planning to buy a house, and I care deeply about the neighborhood that I will be moving in. However, I noticed that sites like Redfin/Zillow don't show anything crime/income related data and I had to keep jumping between Redfin and sites like City-data to get that information. Super time-consuming and annoying. So, I've created a Chrome Extension to make my life easier, shows crime heatmap, sex offenders, superfunds, earthquake faults, gang territory on Redfin map, and enabled other gmap functions like transit, bike lane, and traffic. You can also expand to a full map view if you want. On the listing page, you can check the nearby sex offenders, income/street, flight noise/ethnicity/superfunds, and FEMA flood risk. Figured I'd share it with yall in case you find it to be helpful. Here is a link to download: https://app.homeluten.com/ Feel free to comment with feedback and suggestions, or let me know what you think. If you have other data that you are interested to see, please comment too, and I can add them. #mortgage #housing #sanfrancisco #seattle #austin #chicago #losangeles #boston #orlando #crime #safety #neighbor #neighborhood #homebuying #realestate #investment #rent
Nice work OP. This is sick.
Thank you
If an affordable house in a low crime, zero flight noise and your preferred income range is available would you bid for it? Or ask for more data?
This is racist, take it down
🍿
Not racist, I am putting real money down ($Ms in bayarea), and I want to do my DD to make an informed decision. I am actually against racism, I think people who connect crime/income/ethnicity with skin colors are racist. I only look at them as data and facts.
This is brilliant!!!! May I know the data sources please?
Sure. Most of the data is pulled from public records, e.g. superfund from EPA, ethnicity, and income from Census 2020. The crime data is via a paid service vendor, I believe the aggregate the crime data from local agencies and Fed. If you hover over each section of the extension, it will tell you the exact data source.

Should add another source for school ratings as greatschools suck
Great extension! The $7/month for the pro features is an awful lot. Something like $2 would be probably a more realistic price point.
Thanks for the feedback! I was basing the price on 2 cups of coffee each month :) That being said, please use coupon BLIND to knock the price down to ~$3.98/month (43% off), $2 is really a stretch, see below. For context, I had to pay for the crime heatmap and noise data, which charges based on usage, plus server costs for my own backend for auth, email, cron jobs etc. I ran some rough numbers and $6 is about the breakeven point.
Thank you for the reply and coupon code!
Sometimes ignorance is bliss :-)
Nice. I know it is just data analysis. But how can one publish their code to google chrome extension?? Never ventured into it. It is cool
You don't say nice these days, you say Noice :) RE: extension 1. write JS 2. go to Chrome Developer Dashboard 3. submit 4. wait for ~10 days, your extension is either rejected or live :)
@ynn Don't forget about the 40 quarters you have to pay to put it on the chrome store.
