YoE: 4 Tc: 115k I feel indifferent about my job. It doesn’t excite me one bit but the people I work with are great. I don’t feel like I’m learning much at SAP. In fact, it’s done well to build a stock portfolio and keep my money growing. I’m not a SWE nor do I have the desire to ever go anywhere near code. Here’s what I’m considering: 1. Start fresh and go into sales as a BDR at another company. I’m aware that I’ll probably have to take a huge paycut but once I get the sales rep promotion, I should be taking in the $$$$. 2. Go get an MBA. This will allow me to pivot into FLDP, strategy or brand management at a CPG, which are fields I’ve always been interested in working in. Product management seems cool too. It will also allow me to network better and rebrand myself into a career area where there is a plan to grow. MBA cons are obviously giving up 2 years of salary and living expenses but I’m lucky in that if I liquidate ESPP, it will cover about 75% of the expenses up front. I would need to go to a decent school to make sure I make more money than I am now. I took the GMAT and got a 690 which is decent but it’s not good enough for T15, which I would be okay with since I’m not MBB/IB or bust. What should I do Blind?

If you’re going to do an mba, think about a 1 year mba or look at Europe (absent COVID). Also, don’t think that you need to start off as a BDR and work your way up in sales. You could do customer success (as long as the role focuses on renewals and expansions) to then focus on transitioning into an AE role. You also need to decide if you want to stay at a larger company. I went from GE to a startup to datadog for a few months back to a startup. Never going to a big co again unless it is part of an exit. But for what it is worth I’m in sales.
Thanks for the feedback! I want to leave SAP as soon as possible. I applied for a sales role at SAP and got cut because they already had someone in mind before even starting the interview loops. Are you aware of any one year mba programs? Giving up salary for one year does seem a bit easier to swallow than a full 2 years.
