I’m just disappointed. I feel like I don’t have any mental space to go for interviews... I try to aim for some kind of head start and be early in applying. I would be immensely grateful for any help on referrals within the European Union, or maybe just some encouraging words :(. 4 YOE TC: 90k, non-tech/non-engineering. Thank you all, and for anyone in the same situation, stay strong. #layoff #referral #support #meta #spotify
Really sorry to hear this, OP. If there’s any open roles at Bytedance / TikTok that interest you, DM me for a referral. That goes for anyone else reading too, just DM me.
Appreciate it!!! I will have a look on their open roles. This means a lot, thank you!
You’re very welcome @whynotyes!
Stay strong! It's not the end of the world.
Where in EMEA?
Europe, Middle East, Africa
Any specific country?
It super sucks. Hopefully your severance and unemployment can keep you going for a good chunk of time. If you can afford it, take some time to process it. It took me a few weeks (and honestly it still hits me now and again). Set yourself up with a system (I have a spreadsheet with targeted companies, each gets studied, networking to find a good referral in each, customizing my resume for each role, etc.) If Meta included any career coaching, take advantage of it. Doctoring up your resume, updating your LinkedIn profile, coming up with a branding statement (and practicing it), etc. are services you might have included in it. Make yourself a daily to-do list that includes little things as well as well as "network with 2 people", like "walk the dog", "do laundry", "shower and get dressed", etc.
Thank you so much for your encouragement. I now created a spreadsheet with companies I would like to work at + daily to dos. I know Meta offers a career coaching package, waiting for that one to be available soon.
It's been good for my morale to use the service. But you might also receive other benefits. Thinks like counseling/therapy sessions. Take advantage of them! Also, be sure to sign up for COBRA.
They did say EMEA. US > Canada > EU . Don't know where UK is now as it transitions to third world country.
Ah I missed that. My bad. Yeah that sounds right then
You’ll be ok. You’ve got a good name on the resume and are past that hump where everyone’s looking for “entry level with 5 yoe” Good luck with the hunt, try stay positive and take some time to enjoy the things you might not have been able to while you were working
Thank you mate, appreciate the kind words.
You will find a job. I've been laid off for two months. I've had 26 interviews. Listen, you gotta get in that head space cause once you start interviewing it only gets harder. Don't give up
Sorry to hear it hit you too. I appreciate the kind words and wish you success in your job hunt.
Pull yourself together…you were smart enough to land at Meta and you’ll find yourself in a better place in your next opportunity. It’s easy to allow yourself to feel defeated but put that energy to work and stay positive! It will work out…
Thank you! 100%. Appreciate your comment.
Take some time to clear your head, and then slowly start applying again.

It sucks big time. It’s already not the head start by now, it isn’t the first wave. Aim for jobs which wouldn’t be replaced by ChatGPT, as per what I saw “being replaceable by Chat GPT” was a criteria in laying off non tech people in Meta. Bunch of all kind of writers was let go
Damn, chat GPT has started replacing human jobs so early!
Do you have a source for the criteria "being replaceable by ChatGPT"?
