30% charge. Netflix doesn’t pay it. They have their own web based payment system and just use that. They don’t let users do in app purchases. Netflix doesn’t pay 30%. Twitter has the web payment system already. If he doesn’t want to pay 30% he can just do what Netflix does? 100% he doesn’t know that he can just turn off the in app purchasing feature on Twitter and not have to pay 30%. Also the 30% payment gives Twitter a lot of services: 1. You get fraud protection service for the customer’s payments 2. Local law tax enforcement for purchases made on App Store 3. Access to content distribution servers. So yes Twitter uses apple content distribution services and has to pay the fee for that which is included in the 30%. 4. DRM protection for your app and all services, video playback and code running on App Store for your app. All these are extremely important for an on demand service app like Twitter. Elon just wants free services because his company is in debt. He is an amazing man who made some of the best cars at Tesla but this is pure bullshit.
All those services are nice, but they probably add up to justifying a 5% fee. It's monopoly BS and no one should have to purposefully inconvenience users by making them have to go to a second screen to get around getting gauged
Yeah I don't understand how people think that 30% is not duopoly-driven extortion and it eventually comes to all of us to pay one way or another... But then I see the state of the country and I don't feel surprised...
But you don’t have to pay 30%
BS, those benefits are worth barely more than the 3% for credit card processing. 5% total value tops
Easy. You don’t use in-app purchases. You establish your own payment system. Apple loses revenue. Apple decreases fees or Apple doesn’t give a shit. As a consumer, you are not happy with going to a browser for purchasing, you don’t buy Apple. Apple loses revenue. Apple decreases fees or Apple doesn’t give a shit.
Yes, but apple will also kick out your app from the app store if there is even a hint of a link redirecting from the app to purchase flow outside. These TOS are predatory.
Just offer iOS users a 5% discount off the $8 if they use the PWA instead of getting Twitter from the App Store and capture the spread, easy
Yea he won’t do it because they’re using apple’s other services
This man thinks Elon is an amazing man. That alone says it all. Just go work for your amazing man dude.
Stop this BS Apple. Here is more information on Netflix & App Store https://variety.com/2022/digital/news/apple-app-store-netflix-spotify-web-accounts-1235219399/ “Previously, Apple prohibited app developers from including any links to account sign-up pages. For purchases made within the app itself, Apple will still require developers to use Apple’s in-app payment system — under which Apple takes a 30% cut of subscriptions in year one, with that dropping to 15% starting in the second year.”
It will end soon https://www.macrumors.com/2022/11/01/dma-eu-law-could-force-major-changes-apple/ "The EU's Digital Markets Act (DMA) enters into force today, starting the countdown to when Apple will be required to allow sideloading of apps, third party app stores, outside payment services, and more."
Are you stupid or spreading lies? I just opened Netflix on iPhone and went to account and I can access my webpage for payment in the app itself . Go try it yourself if you have Netflix
Streaming services are treated differently than non-streaming services.
This is the correct answer
Muskrats wants payments on twitter. Not just $8 subs. Did he not build a walled ecosystem with Tesla? He is a greedy billionaire who is riling up the people projecting himself as the savior of free speech. Ask yourselves, why does he care about free speech and why not veterans health or education or infra? It is about money. Always has been.
He doesn't care about free speech in China... So free speech is not the root reason, money is.
Forthnite was shut down by apple because they provided a web payment system for in game currency. The judge split the baby and ordered forthnite to pay the fees but also Apple must allow alternate payment. However the ruling is being appealed so Netflix implemented a redirect payment gambling that the courts will stay the order. It's wrong to say Apple allows web payments, they're forced to do it and is doing everything they can to reverse the court's decision.
The guy literally invented the internet. You don’t think he knows better than anyone here.

So what was Epic suing apple for?
Butthurt.
Epic wanted to use App Store payment without paying 30% fee. The lawyers literally said that the App Store payment made it easier for customers especially children to pay for their loot boxes.
