website: https://surprisegift.to ## Story 2 months ago, one of my colleagues left the company to pursue a Product Role at a startup. I wanted to buy a physical book that gives more insights and helps her in the new role but it's going to be a matter of privacy if I ask her where she lives. So, I bought an Amazon gift card, sent her the amazon product link, and asked her to buy herself, yeah not so clean job. And last year, I wanted to send something nice for my reports but couldn't do it because I cannot ask for their addresses. And few more situations like this seemed like a recurring problem. ## Execution a week later, I thought I had to solve this and built Surprise Gift along with my wife in less than a week while working our full-time jobs. ### Product A form where you can let us know what product to send them and we will generate a unique link so that you can share it with the receiver or we will request if you provide their email id. Once we receive the shipping information, we will order the product and deliver it ๐ . Let me know if you have any questions or feedback! Orders we processed till date: 17 TC: 240k/yr YOE: 7 yrs #startup #remote #gift #colleagues
If you already self-promote at least have the decency to post your TC and YOE or GTFO.
haha definitely can't GTFO. I am going to update TC and YOE
BTW, good idea ๐
Good job! This is really helpful to connect back with colleagues during remote
Thanks, yes it really does. I got great feedback especially from people who gifted remote colleagues.
Good , i have exactly same idea on my product that i am building but it's not gifts.
Thanks, Good luck with your app :)
Typical gift is $20-$25 so $3 is 12-16% overhead so think about it.
Sorry if I fail to understand a little here. What problem does it solve? The receiver needs to still provide address but not to the sender but to you.
Yes, exactly. The receiver needs to provide the address but to me (website). This way privacy between sender/receiver is respected.
It does , you can send gift to your LinkedIn or other random business contacts so there is value. Problem is with returns and refunds.
Very nice idea! Good luck.
Thanks!
Great idea !
Thanks!
Great. What tech stack did u use to build this and made it to production ?
I used the following to get the product live asap. Front End: tailwindui.com (paid) Backend: Laravel framework. For transactional emails: Mailgun. For the logo: looka.com For Privacy, terms of service pages: https://getterms.io/
Awesome. Thank you very much. Great idea though.
Good idea - revenue leaks by 2 payments , value and product returns not scalable . IMO It's better to be a platform based prepaid affiliate marketing site and not handle logistics and complete return or warranty liabilities.
Thats true, you are absolutely right. I got step by step plans once we reach ~50 consistent orders a month.
Also love the suggestion on affiliate marketing
Nice idea! Good luck to you OP
Thanks
