How did this happen? (Meta Stock)
I have a lot of savings and don’t require a visa. I’m not afraid of a PiP, the severance would cover the time it takes to find a new job. I meet my requirements, never miss a task on a sprint but never take extra on. I’m not any ones favorite but I’m dependable for medium quality, which is enough to outlive your colleagues Life is easier than people think
Good to know. Stay happy
I am on visa and planning to leave next year for better pay and better tier companies. But my experience at Amazon has been very pleasant too so far. Manager constantly checks if WLB is fine and praises in 1-1. Although I do take on new things (not assigned during a sprint) for learning as much possible during my stay here. But yeah, I also know that my org has very different WLB and average tenure than most of Amazon, so probably that is the reason.
We need more such stories especially for people like me who will be joining Amazon soon! Thank you for sharing your experience.
😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
As a manager, guys like you are my ideal employee. Reliable/dependable/consistent go a long way. They don't take too much time from manager since they are not gunning for a promo or missing sprint tasks. Easy HV without hassle.
I’ve heard this from many managers. I’ve heard it put as “1/2 my job is just making sure people actually do what they said they could/agreed to. If you can make that part of my job 0 then I don’t really care if each sprint is less than spectacular”
Frankly, being consistent will also get you more critical and high visibility projects since I know that if you say you will get it done, you will get it done. Also works out for a future promo and TT rating if you get interested in that later.
Dude, you should keep this a secret. I also have the same experience and would not want other people finding out about this.
30 hours of quality work a week is my goal
Hey come do my gurupa deprecation bullsh*t
I mean, finally, found one post that praises Amazon managers.
You won’t be able to keep pace with the others who put in 55-70 hour weeks. Therefore, you will be ranked at the bottom of the stack rank comparably with others and will wind up pip-bait.
Maybe. L5 role is pretty finite, you don’t need to be cutting edge to stay in the top 25% If it get pipped I don’t care, ill probably be salty for a month or two and then get a new job and move on. It won’t financially damage me
Being on a visa is 80% of the reason for most people’s anxiety I think. Happy for you though. Cheers!
Interesting, you think people wouldn’t hate Amazon as much if the majority weren’t on a visa?
Yes
