Recently a recruiter contacted me for an open position at Microsoft, I went through the interview process and I was offered a SDE 2 position with a bettee TC to what I had at Amazon (SDE 1), I accepted the offer. I've been working at Microsoft for 3 months now, but I'm not feeling like this is what I expected. When I joined, my manager transferred me to another team, my next manager didn't know I was joining his team, I didn't have an onboarding buddy after two weeks, my teammates are not as fun as my last team (you know what I mean, you just don't feel that coworkers connection), the tech stack seems to be old, the onboarding wikis and documentation is not organized, my team does not have a very clear picture of what they want to do in the next Qs. In the other hand, when I joined Amazon everything was completely different, the good documentation and wikis helped me onboard into the team's projects very quickly, my manager had planned my work for the next 6 months with small projects with exponential difficulty, each team member explained me about the projects they owned, I started throwing PRs to prod in less than 3 weeks after joining, also in 6 months I delivered a project from scratch in multiple regions, my team had a development cycle very organized and clean following the amazon internal tools and best practices. I left Amazon because personal matters but I really enjoyed working there. Joining a new company during COVID has been very hard for me, I've read a lot about the WLB and all of that stuff, but right now I can say that WLB is not what I need, I want to build solutions that impact the world, this Microsoft journey is a failed experiment, I'm planning in returning to Amazon, I've read that there is a rehire policy that allows you to skip the interview loop (if any Amazon HR can confirm this plz) or maybe I'll start preparing again to other FAANGs. WLB vs work Impact? #microsoft #amazon #regret #covid #software #engineering
why go back to amazon, this is your time to spread your wings. Why not try facebook, you might like that fast pace environment. might aswell try another place before you boomerang back to amazon tbh.
I'm not sure, going again in the interview loops is very exhausting
You probably don’t have to go through the interview loops again.
Which org?
Amazon: Kindle - Microsoft: Teams
Bro delete the identifying info wtf, do you want people to know who you are?
What level? 61? And what’s the TC?
61
I joined Microsoft and moved to a new team :) loving it here!
how long did you wait to move to another team?
you can internal interview anytime !
Your experience at Microsoft sounds like mine at Amazon a year ago...
I know, I think that all that stuff about WLB, PIP, micromanagement depends more on the team than the company itself. Did you move back to Microsoft? (rehired?
No, I just resigned from amazon few months ago and now ramping up lc to interview at other companies. Teams sounds like a cool product to me (i used it 3 years ago at school not sure how is it growing now). Is it that bad?
Try a different company. You have many other options to chose. Dm me if interested to interview at Indeed
Don’t make knee jerk decisions OP. Take your time. Returning to Amazon is not difficult. If you really like to grow consider interviewing with mid size startups
I don't feel motivated to even turn on my 💻 :(
LC and QUIT
Check other teams and move internally, you could move at any time of your joining.
Are you sure? at Amazon you should be one year before doing an internal transfer
Who said that? I moved at Amazon 6 months after I joined (I could have moved earlier till I found out I was in a Dev plan 2 months after I joined).
Amazon kindle is the best org, dont assume others will be like that. My team is the most dis organized team I ever worked
really? In India kindle is one of the worst team.
Not sure about in India, from what I heard, kindle is better than other orgs in the us
