Routinely abuse your power? No PIPs, no layoffs, no HR just "internal investigations" where there'll be no misconduct. Peaked in high school? Bald? No useful skills? Need an ego boost? Just soak up a fat pension, get a company vehicle, carry a gun, and be of little actual use to the public. Sick deal, honestly.
Don’t judge an entire workforce because you see a couple bad stories in the news. Cops work alot harder than you and get paid less. They also have more responsibility than you.
Every cop is bald or balding, this is irrefutable.
Correct. For the most part they are, probably due to work related stress.
How could I forget? No documentation! It's there, you just don't have to read it and can operate with your own interpretation.
Nothing says easy like risking getting shot every time you pull someone over
You risk getting shot every time you go out in public, you don't get any praise for it and bear the full (read: negative) responsibility of your actions if you defend yourself.
No you don't lol Comparing yourself walking to a bodega to a cop who interacts with criminals daily is wild
And the best part - donuts!
on god
Most of these benefits exist in most roles. They exist because these roles have unions Obviously, you're not getting the chance to shoot people after reviewing a pull request, but if you want some job security and a bit more money, you'll want to join a union. It's honestly depressing sometimes how few benefits American workers get. Our pay is much worse, but we get free healthcare, double the amount of holiday, a year of primary parental leave, paid sick days...and that's even at a shithole like Amazon.
dropping character for this one: you're right. there's a strong conservative, more libertarian, perspective amongst American tech workers than people realize since it exists outside of SV. a lot of "i pulled myself up by my bootstraps" types that got in early/lucked into tech for higher salaries and convinced themselves it was merit-based.
Don't forget pensions!!! They can basically retire comfortably with 20 years of service. We'd get there if we are lucky
Most of their pensions are only 30 to 50 percent salary after 20. You can’t really retire off it.
You're basically forced to retire after a point to maximize. Depends on your rank and CoL but you can retire very comfortably, not luxurious, here on it.
The average population 1.5% develop PTSD. In the police force, 20% develop PTSD. In a 10 year career, more than 80% officers face life threatening situations. Let me ask you a question - for a fat pension , would you be willing to face 3 life threatening situations and live with PTSD ?
the 18.5% difference is cop union teaching cops how to fake ptsd to get more disability benefits
You can still be a cop. What’s stopping you?
