Switched from Amazon to Google recently. Still in the honeymoon period right now. I know Google isn’t perfect but the vibe is totally different. I regret not getting out of Amazon earlier. Amazon is literally the shittiest company I have worked for. I will never go back unless it’s the last resort. For current Amazonian- get out asap. At Amazon: 1. Leadership was all about challenging you to the max. L7+ takes pride in nit-picking, which adds absolutely no value. The first draft of doc is not that much different from the final version except lots of people nitpick about grammar, typo, wrong choice of words, instead of providing constructive feedback. 2. I got used to hearing leadership principles left and right, with folks dropping lines like “disagree and commit,” “I’m going to be a bar raiser,” or “you’re not being customer-obsessed enough” - it felt like living in the cultural revolution in China, with everything quoting from Mao. It becomes a quoting contest. 3. Working 12-14 hours was the norm, and the concept of “life” outside work was blurry. 4. managers gaslighting and criticizing everything you do 5. Colleagues backstabbing because of the pip system. 6. I was grateful of all the small perks, like free bananas and one free daily barista coffee from Jassy. Thinking wow Amazon strives to be the world best employer At Google, it’s a whole other story 1. unlimited food, snacks and coffee. (Just the free lunch concept encourages colleagues to grab lunch, build friendship and longer lasting relationships outside of work) 2. People are actually supportive, nice (except for tenured ex-Amazonian manager still having the Amazon pride). 3. People’s attitude towards work is more about working smart as opposed to grinding at Amazon. I don’t see googlers working during holidays. This reminds you there is life outside of work. Enjoy it!
Can you refer me to Google? I feel the same at M on top of it lower pay than Amazon.
How long did you work at Amazon ? YOE?
I agree with each point here, please refer me!
Congrats OP 🫡
Which division at Google are you on?
Same here. Amazon gaslights you to think you’re the shit while in reality it doesn’t fucking matter. And there is more money outside with way lesser work
Spot on OP, Amazon was the worst really
Everyone here knows this already, nothing new.
Chill out oracle… Don’t you have to maintain the language we use and the “7 billion” devices it runs on?
I didn't know the details as much as this
