IBM San Jose housing and commute help!!
Hi, I am starting with IBM this month in their San Jose office. I am currently in the east coast and actively looking for renting housing options! I don’t have a car yet and don’t intend to buy one immediately, so may have to rely on public or company provided transportation or car pooling (atleast to get the work started) since it’s a hybrid situation. Need help with: 1. Which areas are safe and easy wrt to transportation. 2. Does IBM have shuttle services? If yes, what locations or routes does it take? 3. Where are all the IBMers located? Relying on public transportation is a fool's errand if you have to go to work

South San Jose offers plenty of houses for rent within 15-20 minutes of commute time. Typical rent is about $4k/mo
IBM provides a shuttle service between SVL and Santa Teresa light rail station. Do check that out.
Where can I find the stops or timings?
I know that site, agree with other poster there isn’t much around. I do remember some apt close by but really you can’t go to many places without a car. Yes you can bus if you have time to burn. Maybe you get a bike or scooter? Advise you get some sort of transport for that area or you will be bored quickly.
Rent a room in a house, close to vta. Take shuttle from vta stop.
Hi there! The IBM SJ office is in the middle of no where. You will definitely need a car / Uber a couple of times depending on the location. I have IBM friends living in Crescent Village/North Park in San Jose That’s a 20-25 min drive one way. Safe location but pricey. Look around in that area.
Are they ok with car pooling?
